HELP PLEASE
My old laptop died and I now have a new one with the following specs
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU P7450@2.13 GHz
RAM 6GB
64-bit Operating System
Windows 7 Home Premium
NVidia GeForce GT 230M
All the above is gobbledegock to me.
I can't get T2 to work. It installs fine then after the loading screen it goes black. I've read the forum advice and tried to follow the instructions about compatibility, ddfix, widescreen etc but nothing works. Eg ddfix1.3.11 x64 and darkwidescreenv6r3, only work if I download a prepatched T2 exe because mine doesn't have ddraw.dll in it. When I install ddfix/widescreen - the loading screen is windowed and then a black screen. If I don't install them full screen loading then black screen. I've checked the various files to ensure the resolutions are the same (1366x768)... nothing works:mad:. I've been obedient and diligent but as I haven't a clue what I'm doing, the problem just stays the same. I can't play T2...:(
Someone help me. Have pity on me, I'm completely ignorant and in the dark but I can't live without Thief... please HELP

Don't know if this will help, but try the 2nd section in user.cfg in your thief folder.
Enable the safe_texture_manager line.
This usually works if you have sound but no picture, it might or might not be related to your problem.
I loaded thief2, 3, dark mod in Win 7 64 and did not have any problems.

Thanks for your prompt reply.
Here comes the depth of my ignorance
1) what do you mean by enabling safe_texture_manager?
2) when you loaded t2, what were your steps? Install from cd, patch to v1.18, ddfix, widescreen in that order?
I'm sorry I'm such a noob.
OK, I understand now that enabling means getting rid of the semi-colon before the line, however it didn't make any difference . HELP STILL REQUIRED

Make sure that after you remove the semicolon in the User.config file, that you tab the text back where it was.
Before:
;Some video cards may not work properly with Thief 2
;including the intel 810 and the nVidia RIVA 128.
;To fix, remove the semicolon from the next line.
;safe_texture_manager
After:
;Some video cards may not work properly with Thief 2
;including the intel 810 and the nVidia RIVA 128.
;To fix, remove the semicolon from the next line.
safe_texture_manager
now shift the text "safe_texture_manager" back to where it was.It should have the same spacing as before ,just without the semicolon.
sorry I can't post it for you like it should be ,the text editor doen't seem to leave it there after I save.

Thanks for all your help.
I finally did a fresh re-install, premier T2 patch, enhanced pack, ddfix x64 and widescreen patch.
What I discovered is that I can run T2 perfectly by not using Darkloader. I can pick an FM in Darkloader, then when the T2 screen comes up - in a windowed format, I close it and start the game using my old T2 CD. It works perfectly and the graphics are overwhelming.
So, the problem was 1) I hadn't installed the Enhanced Resolution patch
2) I was trying to load the game via Darkloader.
So, thanks rustmite and bikerdude, I'm a happy taffer again :thumb:
