Evening
Ok, Ive tried searching for an answer on this via the net, but I get the same non-technical newbie search results.
Essentially I'm using windows 7(x86) and for while running a program or doing a task in windows explorer I get a delay/freeze/go-slow. Inittialy i thought it was a network related issue (and still might be) so I removed all the network drives, network location shortcuts and library locations. but Im still getting the same issue.
Is there a known fix for this? or this just another case of Windows exposing one of its foibles that forces me to go back to my ghost copy of the virgin windows install each time this happens untill MS release a Sp...

When you're in explorer, are you moving files about via the libraries or from your C drive directly? I've got so many folders that reference so many files in my library right now, that when I move a bunch of MP3s or pictures, it freezes for a few seconds while (I guess) it updates and sorts the behind the scenes XML stuff.
Moving files from their actual folder to another actual folder directly doesn't cause any lag issues whatsoever, only when I'm in the library. It might be the same thing you're going through.
edit: I just saw where you said you removed all your library locations. Did you remove all of them, or just the ones related to your networked folders?

All of them, as they were all network locations..

Man, I dunno then. Best I can tell you do is open your task manager and check for CPU spikes under the performance tab whenever you experience a freeze...something I'm sure you've already done.
It all depends on when and where you experience you issues that will be the most telling thing here. Based on what you've said, it could be a huge number of things. All the way from a severe fuckup with Windows itself, to something as simple as your virus scanner being overzealous and blocking execution of all your stuff until it gives it a full scan. Are your freezes random, or do they happen under somewhat specific circumstances?

Yeah done that, nada.
disabled it and w7 was still doing it.
sorta, thus far its been mosylt when i try to run a program or d something in windows explorere.
but I have an update of sorts - since removing all the network shortcuts, I haven't really noticed any bad freeze up - that before would cause me to curse.. so touch wood etc..
