I'm a Linux user mostly. I have been meaning to try the Beta in a VM to learn the changes to the UI and stuff. Seeing as I'll eventually end up using/working on someone's system with W7 installed, it would be a good idea to get familiar with it.

RTM is out July 13th apparently!

Confused, does that make any difference for the end-user?

Not really. Unless you're a Technet or MSDN subscriber, the RTM copy only means that Windows 7 is done and being shipped out to Dell, HP, and the like.

Are any of you using hibernation in Windows 7? I had sleep and hibernate problems right out of the box with Vista on two different machines - one desktop and one laptop. I got sleep to work
most of the time with a little hackery, but it still wakes the machine up on occasion and sometimes needs to be put to sleep manually. And hibernation is still no dice no matter what I do. These are killer problems for a laptop, so I had to revert to XP.
I have problems on my laptop both going into sleep and hibernate and even shutdown, all though shutdown problems are not as common- it just takes forever. the main problem was coming from the computers actions once the lid would shut. Set to either hibernate or sleep upon closing the lid, the computer once reopened would have to be rebooted. I linked my power button to hibernate and havent had a problem with it.

Its apparently quite good, much better than Vista.

I finally got around to trying this yesterday, only to be told that it won't install onto dynamic disks. And all my disks are dynamic. Great.
Edit: Aha, I used DiskPart to 'retain' my drive and now I can install Windows 7 onto it.

I've about had it with Vista - its slow, cumbersome and generally a pile of poo.
Looking forward to trying out all the fancy bells'n' whistles i've been reading about win7.

I doubt the RTM copy is vastly different than the RC, which is already about as solid as I could hope for.
And a good bit of advice if you've got a widescreen monitor. Dock the taskbar to the left side of the screen, set the pop up timer on the aero peek windows down a bit using this (
http://www.winvistaclub.com/Ultimate_Windows_Tweaker.html) Ultimate Windows Tweaker here, and enjoy. It's a helluva lot more convenient. I find I can switch between and open programs far faster than I could with the old at-the-bottom XP style. Plus it looks better to boot.
If you find yourself running out of room for pinned programs, just use 7stacks and make a couple of groups.

So, I installed this, played around with it a little bit, decided I didn't want to use it since my favourite firewall doesn't have a 64-bit version yet (and also because them having moved everything was driving me mad), so I went back to Windows XP and now I can't log in anymore, the keyboard doesn't work once XP has started and so I can't use my password to log in.
Is this a new trick Microsoft are trying to use to force people to upgrade to Windows 7? Because it's making me more inclined to get a recent Linux disto than anything else...
