And 512mb of addressing space is reserved for the OS, so you can't get more than 3.5GB in a 32-bit XP. I think the addressing space for your video card memory comes out of that, too, so if you have a 512MB video card, you can only access 3GB of RAM.

Yeah, XP doesn't know what to do with 4+ Gigs of RAM, and just won't use it.
Not that most people need that much anyway.

Yeah, I've got a friend who went all out and slapped 8 gig of DDR3 in alongside his quad core i7. What does he use his computer for? Playing WoW and checking webpages. I swear, some people have more money than sense.
Speaking of money, a leaked Best Buy memo gives us an idea of what the pricing is gonna look like for the W7 upgrades. (
http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/05/best-buy-memo-explains-that-vista-doesnt-work-details-windows/2#comments) $50 for Home Premium. $100 for Pro. Very nice, even if it potentially is for a limited time.
Just ignore all the other BS. I mean whole new operating system? As much as I love it, I'd be lying if I said it was anything but a streamlined slicked up rejiggered Vista 2.0. It really is "Vista That Works". Or rather "Vista, that works on release so it doesn't get a bad rep".

Dangit, my free TechNet sub will run out just before Win 7 is released. :(

Don't Technet subscribers get access to the RTM? It should be out within a month or two.

Ooh, I'm not sure, I only just joined up.

I don't know, I liked the grassy hills better. Think I'm gonna stay with XP.

I don't get this:
Quote:
Windows 7 E editions will be sold only in full versions: there will be no upgrade versions available in the European Union. The good news is that the full versions will be available at the upgrade price, though if history is any indication, they'll likely still be higher than the US upgrade prices shown above.
Okay, fine. But then they say:

Update
A few readers have asked in the comments and via e-mail about retail pricing in other countries. While we begged for pricing in every country, a Microsoft spokesperson told Ars that only pricing for the EU and the UK were available:
*
The EU: Home Premium upgrade (€119.99), Professional upgrade (€285.00), Ultimate upgrade (€299.00), Home Premium full (€199.99), Professional full (€309.00), and Ultimate full (€319.00)
*
The UK: Home Premium upgrade (£79.99), Professional upgrade (£189.99), Ultimate upgrade (£199.99), Home Premium full (£149.99), Professional full (£219.99), and Ultimate full (£229.99)
So which is it?
On a separate note, there's something else that I'm not too keen on with Microsoft's release plan - why 22 October, why so late? Sure, you've got the holiday season coming up, but, maybe it's just me, I don't see people buying a new OS for their friends as a Christmas present. I
do see students interested buying a new OS before the start of the new academic year. Or, well, it was my case. I was counting on a mid-summer release, sit on it for a month or two, and then get W7 in September to be all set up right before going back to Uni.

I'm guessing that it would have ideally been out in Summer, but they didn't want to rush it.
