Have the issues with directsound in windows 7 been resolved, does the surround sound work or am i better off sticking to xp. I have a Xfi gamer sound card for audio and just wanted to know if i could use the hardware accelerated mode for sound in game

I have a integrated Realtek card. I get surround sound in T3 but not in T1/T2. I can get it 'working' in T1/T2 by using "3dSoundBack" (the Realtek version of ALchemy) but it has other problems that I consider worse than stereo sound... from what I've heard ALchemy works a lot better.
No EAX in any of them but I don't consider that a big deal personally...

Alchemy
I see that Thief 2 is not in the list of supported games .. has anyone tried it with The Metal Age and what steps are needed to make it run if so ?

Its works, trust me. Ive been using Eax since Vista was released and am now using W7. very simple, you install Alchemy, the add thief2 game list by typing the game name and path, no need to change anything else.
The Win7 driver comes with alchemy, unlike the vista driver.

One second...maybe I'm missing something, but won't Alchemy only work with Soundblaster cards?

yes, er but then so does eax. I assume then that some where in this thread someone is trying enable eax on a non-creative card....<sigh>
Yes, I know you can enable eax on non soundblaster cards, but that will only work in xp as far as I know and quite frankly its utterly crap...

Oh I've already tried everything possible to help my card, I think the post was in reference to the OP who has an XFi of some kind. My card just won't do hardware sound on Thief1/2 and I've come to accept that.
I'll probably invest in a Creative card at some point in the future.
