I ain't a "nerd" and also I'm not really a tech person, I just like going on the computer and doing stuff  What's your definition of a tech nerd?

Someone who denies they're a nerd on TTLG.

I'm on Windows 10 now, having upgraded from 7. During installation I was told about all these things that would be shared, so I changed the settings and turned most of them off. Having recently helped someone with Windows 8 I knew how to work with the tiles, so I removed a lot of them from the new start menu.
This is all sounding a bit miserable. I turned this off, I removed that etc, but I think of an OS like I think of a government. It should allow things to run smoothly and not try to draw too much attention to itself. Right now I have no strong opinions for or against many of the things, and for me that's a good thing.
For some context, I used XP for ages and only got 7 in February, and if 10 is also good, I'll feel like I've been bouncing along the peaks of a sine wave rather than the troughs.
edit: one thing I didn't like was drop down menus being right aligned. After some searching I found out they could be put back to left aligned by using the answer on (

Anyone else on the leading edge today?

By the way, the "Get Windows 10" app icon for reserving a free upgrade is for marketing purposes and should be ignored...Anyone with a legit Win 7/8/8.1 install can freely download the Windows 10 upgrade at any time they wish...(

Make sure to select the custom install option, turn off all reporting/sharing on the first two pages, and deselect the four Microsoft default apps on the third page if you wish to keep your previous defaults.

I'm on the side of "I have a secondary machine which I'll use to test out Windows 10 before converting my main machine". That way I won't break anything vital, but I still get to check it out.

Since I have a whole year to upgrade, I'm just going to sit back and watch for a few months.

I'm with you, faetal. I'll just be taking notes on the experiences my fellow TTLG'ers have had (with Windows 10) before I start messing around with installing the new OS. I've never used Windows 8, so everything about Windows 10 will be new to me. Being a little cautious never hurt, imo.
