I recently reinstalled my probook4730s HP with recovery and saved my thief 2 folder and missions on an external usb but now when i run darkloader all i get is a blank screen with sounds after starting a game. Also my resolution is 1600x900 but all my programs run on 1440x900! there are two blank bars at both edges of the screen whenever i run a programI really dont know what to do its so frustrating anyone please help me or forward this post to a techincal support site. everything worked fine before.
:confused::erg:

I'm assuming you manually set your display resolution to 1600x900 and it didn't work? If so, perhaps it's your display driver. Someone with more knowledge than me will have to help you with that.
As for the black screen in Thief, have you run Tafferpatcher and installed New Dark? If you haven't, you should do that first. If you have, then look in your Thief 2 install folder for cam_ext.cfg. Open that file in any text editiprogram such as notepad and scroll down to the D3D9 render options entry and make sure there is a semicolon in front of multisampletype 8. Like this:
; -------------------
; D3D9 render options
; -------------------
; NOTE: these options can only have any effect when "use_d3d_display" is enabled
; by default it will try to use an enhanced 32-bit precision display mode, if the driver supports it, but
; there may be instances (like with integrated intel GPUs) where the driver does support it but it may not
; work correctly (such as gamma not working), this option will disable the use of enhanced precision
;d3d_disp_no_rgb10_buf
; multisampling (anti-aliasing) level
; IMPORTANT: some integrated graphics HW may not work correctly with multisampling and you will be left with a
; black screen, if that happens disable this option again
; multisampletype 8
That should do it, but if not, let us know.

thanks so much tanner it works fine like before! I wonder why did that semicolon disappear after i saved my thief content on my external disk! but i still dont know what makes my resolution smaller when running a program! You think my display driver is out of date? Perhaps I need to ask hp support itself...
Tannar on 23/6/2016 at 17:15
That semi-colon is missing by default, since the majority of computers will play fine that way. Computers using integrated graphics (such as a laptop), can't handle multisampling, apparently.
I am not really sure about your other issue. We need someone with more technical know-how than me, sorry.

thx for the help so much would you be able to ask around or send an expert? I would be more in debt as I am already:cheeky::thumb:

It would probably be helpful if you could find the file "Thief2.log" in your game folder and post the contents - either here directly or upload it somewhere and link to it. The details in the log file should cover a lot of the information about video modes that will be helpful in diagnosing your problem.

whatever is feeding the game with non-power-of-two sized textures, get rid of it.
anyway, I'm thinking this would be a good time to create a new T2 install from scratch (TafferPatcher), and perhaps ditch darkloader and use FMselect.

i dont understand you... but darkloader works fine and thief does exept all programs run on lower resolution! there must be a simpler solution:idea:

I'm thinking you have a problem with your gpu driver - get the latest driver from intel's website and see whether it makes things better.
