Hell yes, I'll be pre-ordering. Good, bad or ugly, I want to try the game out first hand and as soon as it's out. And with the GMG discount, it can be had for about 33 bucks. That's like a night out at the bars.
@Tomi - (
http://community.eidosmontreal.com/blogs/Thief-PC-Requirements) System Reqs are out already.
This.
I had thought about protesting a "lesser" Thief game by not buying it, as I'm sure many of you have considered or still are planning. The thing is, it won't make much difference to EM how many of us TTLGers buy the game. The financial success of the game depends on how many new players it attracts, whether we like that fact or not.
Because I've decided that I will buy the game, I'm pre-ordering.

I'll probably preorder just to get the Bank map. I wouldn't if there was no incentive to preorder, or if the incentive was just to get a bag of potions and starting loot.
The above only applies to this game though, since the Thief franchise is special to me. I wouldn't bother preoredering at full price for other games even for exclusive levels.
Well, maybe I would for a new System Shock or Deus Ex or Half-Life game, but that's about it.

Regarding the bank mission, it'll probably be released as $5 DLC 3-6 months after the fact. So don't be too hasty.

Haha, I knew this would come back to haunt me sooner or later! :D I may have been biased there indeed, but Mafia is still one of my all-time favourite games, it's like watching/playing a great gangster movie (that admittedly uses all the old mafia cliches) and I even loved the action bits and the unforgiving (or unfair, you say) difficulty that you seemed to dislike. I do understand that it may not be for everyone though, but let's not go there again... You normally seem to have a pretty good taste in games, so you're forgiven. :p Did you ever give Mafia 2 a spin, by the way?
Oh, and I was reading about the Mafia creators' upcoming medieval RPG (I can't remember what it's called and where I saw it) not too long ago, and I checked out some of the readers' comments at the end. I scrolled down and most of the comments were fairly positive, but in the middle of it all I saw that someone was bashing the story direction in Mafia 1, and it reminded me of our little argument. Then I looked at the name next to the comment and started laughing...
dethtoll :D
Haha, yeah, I tore the developer a new one on an RPS article about their closing.
As for Mafia 2... well, it basically improved on everything that sucked about Mafia 1 and still wasn't much fun to play. Great atmosphere, though.

Last game I preordered was Splinter Cell: Double Agent and I'm still recovering from that. So no.

Why not?
Why should I? For a piece of content that should have been in the game in the first place? For a tiny slice off a price that's equal to the price of a physical copy despite digital distribution being a lot cheaper?
And that just goes for the games that are good. There are many more reasons not to preorder games that might turn out to be stinkers.
When I want to throw money at things sight unseen, I much rather throw it at Kickstarter, where at least most of it goes to the developers.

Where's the, 'No, I will rent/borrow the game' option on this list? As I'll more likely be either renting the game out for my PS3, just to see how bad it is or borrow a physical copy of the game for PC from a friend, since my new computer will be most likely able to run the game at full settings. It all just depends on convenience for me, as I do not want to support the developers at all(since EM clearly haven't got a clue about what they're doing with the Thief IP and are simply lashing onto modern trends that sell in this day and age, instead of offering something truly unique to distinct itself from other games, aside from brand recognition).
Besides, that Bank Heist mission will be most likely nothing but a challenge mode map anyway to compare completion times and all that jazz(since it does mention leaderboards and competing against your friends among the details in the trailer), which I'm of course not interested in. Besides, if you're really desperate to experience the level, go play Thief 2's 'First City Bank and Trust' level again, as you would have had the essential experience, albeit with much better gameplay where you can actually jump and do whatever your thieving heart desires;)

Ofcourse I have pre-ordered. Because I have my own reasons for wanting the game and I don't have a self rightious, developer hating attitude. Some people behave like a hardcore vegetarian trying to take down factory farming.

Some people behave like a hardcore vegetarian trying to take down factory farming, but they still eat meat to "see how bad it tastes like". :p

Nope. Gonna wait for some reviews here first.

And bragging about this
play it first, "buy" it later thing still isn't cool.
Demos are "not cool"? -I'm pretty sure that I bought Thief: Deadly Shadows after playing, because of having played it. Yep. There's the DVD case in the shelf. And I'm also pretty sure that I did not buy Crysis, after playing the demo. Yep. Nowhere to be seen.
You know you have been well and truly hypnotized by anti-consumerism and DRM, when mentioning a concept that used to help consumers as a general practice, is immediately associated with negativity for some inexplicable reason. There's something scratching around in your brain, whispering:
"Don't make educated decisions. Don't be a responsible consumer. Obey the advertisements. Don't buy quality, just buy."
