Huh. I'm not sure what the big deal with the cost is. I bought TDS when it came out and paid about $50 for it back in 2004. Nowadays $47(less with the discounts) isn't all that bad; I'm surprised it doesn't cost more than it does. DLCs might not be the incentive all people look for, but it's
something. It's also a good marketing tool as people are more likely to perk up and pay attention if they even
think something may be gained in addition to purchasing the game. I'm hoping it will either lead to more downloadable missions in the future or that it could possibly be the precursor to game editing software.
The best part is that $50 in 2004 equals around $61.66 in 2013, probably even more now.
Even better is that I paid $33.38 for the most expensive version of the new game. In 2004, that's the equivalent of TDS coming out at a price point of $27.07.
There's really no argument in favor of EM being "greedy" with their pricing.

So, you're saying that raising the minimum wage would do nothing to control inflation.

I'm debating the complete and total fallacy that pre-order incentives are inherently evil or somehow indicative of a poor quality product.
They're standard fare, and early adopters tend to get more incentives than late adopters, while excessively late adopters usually get the best incentives, assuming they don't care about how soon they get their product.
Without early adoption, developers risk being completely thrown under the bus. They don't typically get to sit around and wait 2 years to turn a profit, so they do everything they can to ensure as many upfront sales as they can. It's incredibly misguided to think that any company is somehow being evil or even greedy by trying to market their game effectively.
I'm not even arguing it's greedy or evil. I'm not even saying that's the sole purpose of preorders. I'm just saying that the idea that it could be abused that way is completely real and has been with a few games in the past and calling the idea crazy isn't really legitimate.
I don't even think Thief has preorders for that reason. The preorders are a good incentive to get skeptical fans to buy in, but they probably would have done it without the community backlash anyways.

All the extra stuff promised if you pre-order, if you can get those after release, when there are actual gameplay opinions etc. out there, then I won't pre-order. I know that in the end it's my own view of the game that matters, but I'd still like to hear what people think about it first.
So... the question is: Will all that stuff, for example Bank Heist, become available after official release date? Anyone know?
Yeah, yeah, I admit I didn't read through the whole thread yet! Getting there!

It seems likely it will after a few months.

Most games these days have pre order DLC and it almost always gets packaged into some GOTY or
Ultimate Edition down the road. Of course before those come out, I would expect to see it sold stand alone for an extortionately large asking price.

Well I paid £20.50 for the game plus the Back so....

Well I got quite lucky, I preordered on Tesco and after using some vouchers I had I only had to pay a tenner! sure it maybe a few days after release date but for ten quid I aint moaning, and if it is bad then I've not lost much.
