Shit...There will be blue mist portals in city hub like in T DS...I'm so f*** disappointed.
If I could change my vote on this poll, since I'm not pre-ordering this game anymore...
Blastfrog on 25/1/2014 at 23:14
If I could change my vote, I'd set it to not getting the game at all. Linear, small levels with loads of loading does not appeal to me. Oh, and the action sequences at the end of each mission totally break the atmosphere and character of how good a thief Garret is supposed to be. I was hoping that perhaps I could tolerate this game, but the new set of info that came out clarifies to me what this game is, and it's not something I want to play at all.

Fun fact: League of Legends (you know, one of the biggest multiplayer games in the world) sustains itself solely by allowing impatient/stupid people to spend money on early unlocks and useless skins.
That's a large part of why the playerbase and the game itself is a shitheap.

If Mass Effect 3 were released in 1997, the extra character/mission would not have been in the game. The budget for the game would have been smaller and they would have been forced to cut content. Further, the core development/production of the main game wraps up MONTHS before the game actually launches. The last few months are heavily focused on QA, polish, and last minute fixes. The production staff (designers, writers, etc) usually begins working on a new project at this time, or helping with the QA process if absolutely necessary, so it's not entirely out of the question that they would produce a piece of content as small as a single character, costume, or mission before the release of the game. Not only that, but usually several weeks before a game launches, it goes gold, which means manufacturing has begun based on the final release candidate. There is plenty of time before release for the development staff to move on to other bits of content. You very clearly don't know how the game industry works.
I don't care if certain staff members have to hold a handstand for three months after their obligations to the main game are complete. Nothing in that explanation is relevant to us as customers. All I see as the end user is that I'm being asked to pay for garbage add on content that is of poor value compared to what's in the main game. You can't expect people to not complain about that.

I guess I don't see why the uproar is so high about Thief 4. Is it what I would wish it to be? No.
Does it look like any more of a console-ized POS than Deadly Shadows was? Not really.
What Looking Glass was, and what they made was very much lightning in a bottle. It was about the time, the place, and the people who came together. Anyone who goes forward with that as their standard is in for disappointment eternally, unfortunately. I wish it were not so.
So you have to have some perspective and try to judge newer games somewhat in the context of the current gaming climate. For instance, Human Revolution ended up being much more faithful to the original Deus Ex and a much better game than I had anticipated it would be. I certainly preferred it to Invisible War. It was not the masterpiece that the original was, but again that was a very different time.
So I will be hoping that Thi4f is as good as Human Revolution, or similarly good. I will be hoping that it is better than Deadly Shadows in certain ways, though I don't deny that Deadly Shadows had its strengths.

If you think it's "garbage" and "poor value" you're not being asked to pay for it.
Would you rather the base game include it and cost more? You're just entitled and want extra content without having to pay for it.

If it's not good enough to make it into the game on time, I would prefer they discard it. If it's a good idea, they should develop it fully into a decent sized additional campaign. Like Dishonored's Knife of Dunwall DLC. I still maintain that day 1 DLC or preorder incentive DLC usually sucks. Yeah I know, I don't have to buy anything I don't want to. That's great and I won't.

You actually believe all that? Development wrapping up months before the game launch, etc? You really think that the developers just produce DLC without the publisher having it planned and approved long before? You don't have any actual experience with software development, do you? Yes, you could produce additional art, character costumes or weapon models before launch with relatively little effort by people sitting on the sidelines, but to implement something like a full-blown mission or an extra companion, you are going to need the very people that are busy with "polishing" and "last minute fixes".
Regardless, it doesn't matter how the game is produced. What matters is that additional content that's relevant to the main game is held behind an additional paywall at launch. When you buy the game at what is essentially a premium price, you deserve to get a complete experience.

So what if Dead Space 3 had a lot of DLC? Almost all of it was optional and pointless crap. The only DLC for DS3 I would even consider buying is Awakened. They can add all the micro-transactions they want to a game to make it easy mode for people who want to throw money at it, it doesn't affect me in the slightest. I'll still be basing my purchasing decision on whether or not the game is worth it, and whether or not each piece of content is worth it. Screaming that it's inherently evil just for existing is the most incredibly ridiculous thing ever.
Except that the microtransactions influence the main game by using cheap psychological manipulation and wasting player's time in order to get them to cough up. This kind of shit may be acceptable in a freemium game, but not in a game that you already paid top dollar for.
It's not evil because it exists, it's evil because it's exploitative. It's fat greedy publishers trying to fleece their customers even more than they already are on top of all the stuff like product placement and charging retail prices for digital games. When it comes to microtransactions, you simply cannot trust these greedy bastards to the keep the integrity of the game while also allowing players to skip content for money.

Games in the past almost never had a dozen different character costumes/designs/skins you could switch between, so I don't think letting dumb people spend extra money on pointless customization is "ruining video games raaaaaaaah!"
I wasn't talking about costumes and skins, but it has to be pointed out that some of the stuff sold as DLC used to be a reward for beating the game or a cheat code.

I ended up pre-ordering through Green Man, but I found out unfortunately I won't get my Steam key until the day of release. Looks like I won't be able to pre-load game, oh well...

Key phrase was "so high."
Also, the point is that everyone here knows what the modern gaming climate is like. Nothing about what they're doing with Thi4f should really be that surprising to anyone, though of course it is lamentable, I would have thought we would all be fairly prepared for such revelations by now and focused on trying to enjoy it despite them. Trying to just be happy there's a new Thief game being made at all, because as I said earlier, even if it isn't what we'd like, maybe them keeping the franchise alive in some way will eventually result in something more to our liking being made down the line.
Though of course I agree that the Stephen Russell thing was an unnecessary slight on their part, and their rationale for why they needed the same voice as the guy doing the stunts was weak. After all, aren't the language-localized versions going to not have that regardless?
