Hi all.
Im considering buying a new PC and since Arkham Asylum has been released I would like to play it. The specs of the PC are:
# Intel® Core 2 Quad Q8200
# (2.33GHz, 4MB Cache)
# Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium
# 4GB DDR2 memory
1.5GB NVIDIA GeForce GT130
The Specs for arkham asylum are:
OPERATING SYSTEM: Microsoft Windows XP or Vista
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3GHz or AMD Athlon 64 3500+
RAM: 1GB for Windows XP 2GB for Windows Vista
GRAPHICS: nVidia 6600 or ATI 1300
I note that the processor required is 3Ghz whereas the Quad core is 2.33 Ghz. Since Im a total noob Would this computer play the game at full speed and quality? or do I need a better processor.
Thanks In advance!
p.s It would be great if this machine played Thief/g/2/Fm's. Do you think it would work with the usual mods?

Hi Welcome to the forums :-)
Basically nVidia are still up to their useal f***** bullshit! The GT130 is a re-badged 9600GS, which was a re-badged 8600GS, thus wont be upto the task. As for the card having 1.5Gb of memory - thats a complete f***** non-sequitur on such a low end pos...!!!
Give me your current systems specs, what part of the world your in and I will do some online window shopping with regard to upgrading your current system.. also whats your budget..

Your system will play it fine. Not on max settings, but it will play it fine.

Hi Welcome to the forums :-)
Thanks, its great to be here.
With regard to my current system, well, its not really upgradable :o I use a 1.2Ghz Amd Athlon
with 512mb ram
and an Nvidia geforce 440 with agp 8x.
Running windows xp.
Im not sure about the motherboard, it doesnt even have a SATA connection, just plain IDE.
So I was thinking of getting a whole new computer system. Unfortunatly I dont have the funds at present but after a few months of saving i should be able to amass around £900.
I live in the UK and so checked pcworld online where I found this:

It sounded powerfull and futureproof for my budget. Which is what im after.

How much do I need to spend and on what in order to play it at max settings? (see below)
It would be great if you could find me a system upto the job of running everything made for today and the future but please keep in mind that I cannot afford an instant purchase since im still hoarding cash. Do you think my budget is reasonable or should it be higher/lower?

As you have an AGP slot, the best card you could put in there would be a RADEON HD 3850, this will also give you fog in thief. but your cpu probably isnt fast enough to take advantage of that card and I imagine the PSU you have probably isnt upto the job. Is your pc a dell or something similar btw..? can you take some pics of the inside and outside..
FYI - That PC you spotted on PCWorld, is way overpriced, you can get a good gaming pc for 2/3 to 1/2 that. You can do it two ways - either buy all the parts and build it or buy a pre-built system. Most online places will do this, for example, the systems below will utterly destroy the pcworld pos and save you £££
£450 - (

- Corsair CX 400W ATX Power Supply
- AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 7850+ Black Edition 2.80GHz
- AMD Black Edition Approved CPU Cooler
- High Definition 7.1 OnBoard Sound Card

or
£676 - (

- AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 2.80GHz @ 3.30GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail
- Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P (Socket AM3) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
- Corsair 4GB DDR3 10666C9 1333MHz XMS3 TwinX Dual Channel Kit (2x2GB) (TW3X4G1333C9)
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3500418AS)
- LG GH22NS40 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black)
- OCZ ModXStream Pro 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Modular Power Supply

- Coolermaster Elite 335 Case - Black
- Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound professionally hand installed by our technicians
- Windows Vista home premium with Windows 7 Upgrade Voucher included

You will need to add an Xfi or Xonar (£50-60) sound card to either of those builds as the onboard sound is shite. And you dont have to choose vista/W7, there is the option for Xp home aswell.

Yeah i would imagine so. I think it would be a lost cause to upgrade my old system.

Im not sure what it is. If I remember correctly it was a custom build from many years ago that was put away when we upgraded to a intel core 2 duo with 1Gb ram and a 512mb ati card (i forget what make, im not at that computer at the moment) which is a family computer that i dont have access to all the time. So i have decided to purchase a better, faster computer to replace my out of date PC that I have in my room. (Thief all night :cheeky:)

Nice find! Thanks Bikerdude - Have you purchased any of there goods? Is it a reputable site? Do you know of anyother sites like the Overclockers?
Though I notice that they only have dual and tri core processors whereas the Packard Bell iPower X9830 has a quad core albeit at a lower speed. Still isnt four better than 3? or will the speed of the tri core outshine that of the quad?
And another question if you dont mind :thumb: Which one of the two you have selected will play arkham asylum at full whack?
I would really love a future proof (as far as possible) PC.
EDIT: I have been looking at there Extreme performance machines. Would this one be a good buy?(

Or should I stick with the cheaper ones? Which is more future proof? and I notice that they Overclock there processors which is great for the speeds that I want but dont Overcloked systems develop problems i.e stop functioning properly?
Thanks for your help I really do appreciate it!

You can run (
http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest) this test to check your rig against most modern games. After the test, it will show you what the minimum and recommended requirements are for the game and how your PC measures up. That way you can plan for upgrades that will outshine the recommended reqs.
FYI, the test won't work in Chrome.

No problem. It sure helped me; I was about to buy Lego Indiana Jones a while ago, but when I ran the test, I wisely refrained.

* Nice find! Thanks Bikerdude - Have you purchased any of there goods? Is it a reputable site? Do you know of anyother sites like the Overclockers?

* And another question if you dont mind :thumb: Which one of the two you have selected will play arkham asylum at full whack?
* I have been looking at there Extreme performance machines. Would this one be a good buy?Or should I stick with the cheaper ones?
* Which is more future proof?
* I notice that they Overclock there processors which is great for the speeds that I want but dont Overcloked systems develop problems
* I buy individual components from them, as I build my own system/s, you could do the same or better as most of the parts will have warranties longer than 12mnths.
* Its been shown that tri-core, in a lot of games runs a tad faster than quad and is about the same a Core2quad cpu of the same clock speed and cache.
* The £676 Titon will run the BAA at full wack with the HD4850.
* The extreme machine only gives a 20% boost in games for 40% rise in price.
* They are all about the same when it comes to future proofing.
* All modern cpus can take a mild overclock without any of the problems your worried about and remain 101% reliable.
If you want to build your own system I can help you do that, as I will cherry pick the parts you need and factor in the best bang for buck ratio - which the overclockers systems aren't quite doing to my satisfaction.
