Back to the topic at hand - FM's are created over the span of months if not years. No sane developer can invest that much time and energy into a single mission. Hence we get masterpieces that blow the original game away.
Imagine a FM made by the best FM authors working on the level design and plot, and with Stephen Russel being paid to do some voice-over work (kickstarters are a thing). How could one level, any level in any game, match this? It can't.
That's why the only thing I truly want and need is a tool like DromED for NuThief. Give us modding tools and that delicious new engine and I'll be sure that even my grandchildren will be little taffers lurking in the shadow.
(edit: tried listing my favorite FM authors. I came back to add more, then decided there are too many to list and I don't want to risk leaving someone out)

Those missions are also made in the authors spare time...whereas a developer gets a full work day, Monday to Friday. You can't base it on how many months an FM author took to finish a project, you have to look at how many hours they spent over the course of that project. May very well be close to what a developer spent.
One of the benefits of the FM community is shared experience, so you don't have to make the same mistakes others have made.

Not many FM creators get "Monkey Fridays!"

Apparently EM's outsourcing multiplayer for T4, so I expect that to happen. Outsourcing it's what I hoped they would do, but I don't know how much groundwork EM's done for that, themselves.
There hasn't been any info about any multiplayer component being in the game and if you have info contrary to this it would be the biggest news considering the new game thus far.
It's a bit silly saying stuff like this, if it hasn't actually been mentioned. Unless this post was meant as some kind of humour I missed.
On the topic of multiplayer, I would LOVE a multiplayer thiefing game, but any sane developer would make it it's own game and probably not even part of the Thief franchise.

Thief is multiplayer? Have things changed or something?
Do you have a link please, thanks.
I haven't got a link, but I remember one of the devs (I don't remember their names) saying in one of the videos that there won't be
competitive multiplayer in Thief 4. I got a feeling that there will be some sort of a co-operative mode in the game, but I may be wrong.

I think he went on to say something about the online component involving players comparing how they did in a mission.

Co-op has always made more sense for me in a Thief game. Even LGS's ideas for TheftMatch were co-op team of thieves vs. co-op team of thieves.

No problems, I thought I was behind on the times.
Off topic, but is there a thread to congratulate demagogue? I can't find it. :o

Re: dema - No. Decided to just drop by his profile page & leave our congrats & well-wishes there.
*bump*
It wouldn't hurt my feelings if there ends up being no competitive multiplayer mode in T4, but a co-op type of multiplayer option could be very interesting. Maybe even fun.

There was a game I remember called Crackdown. It had one of the best coop modes I had ever seen. In a huge city you could be on one side of town kicking butt while your friend was dirving a car through a window way on the other side. And you could literally just join up with your friend at any time and work together or just start going to town on each other in a frag fest...or running a foot race or hopping in cars and racing against each other. I always thought that type of loose thing would work wonderfully in a THief type of game. just two thieves free in the city, both staking out the big house, running distractions for each other, or even tagging each other with sandbag arrows just for sport. Having races to see who can steal a necklace the fastest and then put it back. A controlled chaos.
