Just wondered if anyone knew about possible plans for an underworld 3. Also if not, why not, as surely an underworld 3 which is anyway near as good as 2 would become the best selling computer game of all time.
Is there any email adresses e.g looking glass, origin etc where I could get more details about an underworld 3 game being made
Thanks

Geez the rights would be a mess. Both principals (LGS and Origin) are kaput, Eidos and EA might have parts of the rights, good luck reaching an agreement. Since Ultima was bastardized into an MMORPG I doubt the property owners would want to revisit a single player (non-subscription) game. Third parties with similar concepts (like Arkane/Arx Fatalis) are a better option anyway, what with the Ultima universe all gayed up by UO (have you seen Blackthorne??) and to a lesser degree U9.

Cheers udasai, I knew that there was some problems with the rigts, but my hopes were raised when on rpg.website under a games listing twister software announced there intentions to develop "underworld 3 test of power". However it seems that someone has objected, and there may never be another Underworld game.
I really am gutted about this, as for the last 10 years I hoped they would produce a sequel of Underworld 2, which is still the best game I have ever played by miles and miles.
With might and magic 10 also not being developed it looks like my days of enjoying rpgs are over!!

AFAIK Arkane tried to get the rights to make Underworld 3, but either wasn't able to afford the asking price, or simply wasn't able to acquire them.
I think it would take a major investment to get that project started, let alone completed. With the right marketing it could be popular (as it should be if done well), but there's no way it would be the best selling game ever. It could most definitely be very successful, but I suspect that it's too much of a risk for very many developers to consider seriously.

Yeah. Sad but true.
Doug Church also tried to get EA to back an Underworld 3 some time ago but they weren't interested. Personally speaking, if it ever were to see the light of day, then I'd rather see some ex-LGSers at the helm of its production.

I'd agree, all of the latter EA single player Ultima's have not lived up to the name (U8, UIX). If EA did decide to do U3 it would probably be awful.
Arx despite it's flaws, recaptured the feel of the underworld's, let's hope that Arx2 might live up to being the spiritual sucessor to Underworld.

yes, certainly recent ultima games have been very disapointing, personally i've been disapointed with the standard since Ultima Underworld 2 some 10 years ago. I Do agree with the sentiments that if underworld 3 was produced by certain companies it could be a disaster, and tarnish the glorious memories of the ultima underworld series.
It seem's all thats left to say is RIP ULTIMA UNDERWORLD SERIES, you were loved, provided enjoyment for fans and WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN
