Good to know that USB still works the same way on the Nexus as my existing tablet if I get one myself in future. It would be nice if it actually performed as a mass storage device but I've not had practical problems with Windows and MTP mode.

Another alternative if you have rooted your tablet (I have cyanogenmod on mine) is to run samba so it appears as just another device on your network.
