[edit] sorry, didn't mean to sound harsh or anything. But please, people, British does not mean the same thing as English.
Yeah, I know I ranted about this on another forum, I'll shut up now. I'm sorry, I was under he impression that the words "British" and "English" varied only slightly in their conventional usage; could you tell me what the formalized difference is? "British" isn't an acceptable adjective for describing accents? I'm just curious; I'm a studier of philosophy of language.

I shall explain as not to enrage Chimpy Chompy further. You will note that Britain is a collection of 4 countries - England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales - and as each has their individual accent, there is no true "British accent". The accent most people refer to as "British" (e.g. Gary Oldman, as HVD said), is in fact English. And don't get me started on regional dialect and accents...
So no, British and English accents are not the same.

To be brutally pedantic, Britain is a collection of 3 countries: England, Scotland and Wales. The United Kingdom (whose full title is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) consists of the 4 abovementioned countries. Each country can be said to have its own characteristic accent, though there is considerable regional variation, particularly in England and Scotland.

Ah, in which case, saying a "British" instead of "English" accent is simply misleadingly vague, not entirely incorrect. Under this definition, there is no such particular thing as a British accent, but by the same logic, there's no such thing as an English accent, either, taking into account the wide variety of dialects in the region. No single English dialect can suffice as "the" true English accent; the term accent refers to a specific collection of dialects.
Interestingly, the very same thing happens in North America, since when people refer to an "American accent" they usually mean one of the dialects found in the United States (and not Canada or Mexico, even though they are just as much American). Of course, there is no such thing as a purely American accent; nor is there an all-encompassing U.S. accent (although the urban northeast accent found in most newscasters serves as sort of the "base" accent).
So, hopefully, since most English-speakers should be able to tell the difference between Irish or English accents, there shouldn't be any real need for a blanket term like British when speaking of accents, right?

But when you say Irish are you referring to Eire, or the occupied territories, (shit, should'nt have said that, it's a bit close to marching season to start making waves...)

Originally posted by ICEBreaker Sounds like when you loaded the level, the game loaded from some older saved games instead, but kept your current status, by using the "travel" method. Almost certainly correct.
HVD: If you want to play the level through properly against the real enemies, load a save from just before you get to the shipside (Just back in the Naval base or something), or go from where you are to back before the dock bit where the MJ12 guys are patrolling. Then save, find the save you just did (checking file dates), and delete the savegame files called 08_NYC_ShipUpper.dxs and 08_NYC_ShipLower.dxs (or something like those names, you'll see). Leave them in your cache/recycle bin/whatever, don't completely erase them just in case.
Then load up the save again, and all should be fixed. Wouldn't want you to take advantage of a bug now, would we! ;)

I never found that happened to me.......but HOT DAMN IT SOUNDS COOL! In fact, I would be quite happy to have that replace the otherwise tedious ship infiltration/demolition missions. I would love to have a level where it's just dead.....a ship of the dead.........Coooooooooollllll.

Actually, there was one thing which ran through my head between finding everyone dead, and thinking "Hey, cool"
And that one thing was...
Jesus, this is just like System Shock.
(Whaddya mean, anticlimax?)

It would be extremely cool to have a game that works like "From Dusk Till Dawn" - i.e, J.C is going around doing all this UNATCO thing, when suddenly the H.Q gets totally wrecked, and the whole game changes because you realise the Predators are invading Earth!
(In Dusk till Dawn the film went from being a Gangster movie to a Vampire horrror flick 3/4 of the way through - totally unpredictable, and very cool.)
