i am TOTALLY confused about the leveling system in this game. i have heard other people on forums talking about "i'm only level 13", etc.... .well i am 13 hours into a quest and i've done a good bit of combat and i'm only level 2 ....
so i found some forums just now where somebody said "why don't you just not level? Just don't sleep." ...
so ... i just loaded up the game, slept... and as soon as i woke up, i gained a level
did it 7 more times and went immediately to level 9
WHAT THE HELL?
it never naturally occurred to me to sleep in this game. there are no instructions to do so and it doesn't seem necessary since you can just wait for an hour to regain your stats.
seriously ...
why does the game do this? it doesn't make any sense for them to not TELL you that you need to sleep before you can level.
i might have never figured this out!

When you get ten skillups you can sleep and gain a level, I'm sure you've figured that out by now. On your tenth skillup from the last level it says you should 'meditate on what you've learned'. It's true that the message can be easily skipped over, however. In Morrowind the message was spammed whenever you leveled up a skill and could sleep and get a level.
you can also look at your character tab to see how close you are to being eligible for leveling.
I guess it would've been nice to have some sort of way to persistently show the player they're ready to level. If the player is .. ya know, a rock. But that's the least of the UI's problems.
