Actually, I was kind of poking fun at the fact that the Republicans have traditionally been the progressive party when it comes to racial issues. They were responsible for the Emancipation Proclamation, and were the major party behind repealing Jim Crow back in the late 60's. On the other hand, you look at the Democrats, specifically the southern variety, and you could see that they were the malefactors in just about every racial/segregation issue from the 1880's up til the early 1970's.
Renzatic, the old southern racist Democrats and the current southern racist Republicans are pretty much the same people (in many cases quite literally). They switched parties, or rather the Democrats threw them away and the Republicans embraced them...

The reason why democrats lost isn't racists, its because people know they serve wall street at the expense of everyone else

Liberals also admire the populist Webb. The same cannot be said for the Democratic establishment. Webb has pushed for a onetime windfall profits tax on Wall Street's record bonuses. He talks about the "unusual circumstances of the bailout," that the bonuses wouldn't be there without the bailout.
"I couldn't even get a vote," Webb says. "And it wasn't because of the Republicans. I mean they obviously weren't going to vote for it. But I got so much froth from Democrats saying that any vote like that was going to screw up fundraising.
"People look up say, what's the difference between these two parties? Neither of them is really going to take on Wall Street. If they don't have the guts to take them on, and they've got all these other programs that exclude me, well to hell with them. I'm going to vote for the other people who can at least satisfy me on other issues, like abortion. Screw you guys. I understand that mindset."

Meh. Everything hinges elections; for example, if an election is won by 1,000 votes, then EVERY winning voting block of at least 1,000 can be said to have swung the election. If all the racists went Democrat, it would swing things a great deal.
I find it hard to believe that anybody paying the slightest bit of attention actually believes that Democrats are more in bankers' pockets than Republicans, but a lot of voters aren't paying that much attention, so I'm not sure how meaningful that is. Yes, the Democratic party is way too much in the pocket of Wall Street. But the Republican party is even more so (as your source indicates), and indeed rather more transparently.
My take: the swings of 2008 & 2010 were both about generic protest votes, on the simple fact that people's lives in general still kind of suck. Explaining things in terms of "protesting bankers" simply doesn't add up in 2010.
I found some amusement in Republican candidates loudly proclaiming that they were against TARP. Of course, they were originally for TARP (as proposed by Bush), and then Democrats added some strings (incentivizing payback, which by-and-large was successful), and only THEN were these Republicans against TARP. Hardly a substantive critique.

You seem to think that I like Republicans.
Everything you say about them is true, and more.

If two wealthy egomaniacs can get along then I certainly don't see why most of us can't eat dirt. Not a lot of calories but lots of minerals surely make up for that.
If only we could figure a way to cut all social programs AND taxes on the rich at the same time without a revolt. Perhaps some form of mind control beamed into living rooms. I have such hope the overlords will figure this out.

I don't know, I just found out that as a result of the stimulus, my wife owes ZERO FUCKING DOLLARS on her student loans because of income proportionate payments, and the fact that she works "in service to the community" (she's an RN). So I'm feeling pretty good about the whole mess right now. We've spent the last year feeling like we're being punished for 25 years of volunteer community service, then her taking a job that has shit pay for the amount of shit she has to do. Thank you Mr. Stimulus!
