I apologize for the misunderstanding. To clarify, the editor works fine. It has never crashed on me, no matter what I'm trying to add/subtract, etc.
What I mean is, getting custom maps to actually load up and RUN is where the problems lay. C'mon, guys, read some of the posts and tutorials: Install it this way...no, install it THIS way...delete this...don't delete this...try this driver...try that driver...your settings are wrong...no, MY settings are correct...you suck...no YOU suck...etc.
It's like a bunch of guards stumbling around in the dark searching for Garrett.
FYI, I build and sell computers for a living. Taught various software apps for a few years. So I think I know a little bit.
The fact that some are having problems and others are not leads me suspect its a Windows problem. Maybe a firewall/anti-virus conflict. Don't know.

Diagnostic menu black for me in full screen, but fine in windowed mode, 9800pro, DNA 3.6.5.1 drivers.

Well, at the very worst .unr files can be shared. Possibly the more we do this the quicker problems will be discovered and solved.

There is a known issue with firewalls, at least with ZoneAlarm. The editor or some part of it wants to access the net for some non-malicious reason (it's explained somewhere, I suggest you do a quick search for it). Thing is, you don't see the dialog popping up asking for access. You can click it 'blind' if you know where to look, but it's best just to allow T3Ed for net access. If you don't give it access, you end up with a black screen, or at least the mission won't start.
I'm writing this from memory, so you want to check the details.

EVERYONE needs to try and be a bit less cynical...
:weird:
The first post criticizes the editor, and the replies defend it.

5. A few months later, a growing realization that something is seriously wrong with the toolset.

That is not a clarification. It's backpedalling.

You might want to look through the INI files for any references to Source Control or to "P:". I thought I commented that stuff out, but the last time I seriously worked on the editor release was... October? So my memory is a bit fuzzy.
Same with console commands. I think I posted some useful ones about "editactor" over in the pre-release editor forums if someone cares to dig those up.
Also a lot of the commands can be gleaned from looking at.... T3Menu.ini? (There's an ini file that specifies what goes into the debug menu that you get when you hit backspace. All it does is call console commands)
(I don't have the editor installed because I've got diskspace issues with other work I'm doing)

There is a known problem with launching the debug version of the editor (using the joystick icon in the editor) with some firewall programs such as zone alarm. Try temporarily disabling them.
Also, try my method of launching the non-debug version of the game from the editor - a lot of people use this method almost exclusively as it runs much faster:

Don't remember seeing/reading anything about that.... whats the significance of doing it that way ?
