Okay, I played System Shock 2 (over a year and a half ago in fact) and loved it. Ever sense then I have been trying to find a copy of the original SS so I can complete my SHODAN experience. Mind you, I don't want any half-assed CD or discs only setup, I would like a good copy, i.e. CD version with box and manual included.
The problem is its been almost impossible for me to find one at a reasonable price - and it seems to only be getting worse. Right now copies of the game are going for as much as $80.00 dollars on Amazon, and they are virtually non-existent on eBay.
So what the heck is the deal? Am I just looking in the wrong place?

$80??? Wow... I got mine online for a buck last year.
Then again, it was only the CD, no box, no manual.

I'd guess because SS1 is old, highly regarded, and didn't sell in huge quantities in the first place (the CD version at least). Most of the complete sets would be in the hands of rabid collectors by now. That said, if you are patient you may find a reasonably-priced set on ebay.

I won the jewel case version of the CD game used for $10 on Ebay.
But I only got SS2 for $5 off Ebay, so...
The high priced on Amazon might be New copies (as in real gems of copies people have left undisturbed for many years)?
You should see some Out Of Print music albums on there, sheesh. I saw a normal CD album going for $120.

I got the original CD version in box + manual about two weeks ago for £4.70 on ebay in near perfect condition. So just keep looking there you will get lucky eventually. Although it may be possible that there are more copies in Briton than US. Would I be right in saying that it was more successful over here?

$80 isn't all that bad if you got the money and you make good income, the hole created by that spendage will be gone.
