I'm sorry to have to say that I disagree with you on everything. I love the way Thief: Deadly Shadows plays out. I love the movement, the control, the ability to put your back againt a wall, the leaning... I love everything. One of the few things that I think they could have done better is that Garrett should be faster. I mean, he's a "master thief" for something's sake. He should be able to zip around like WEE. Although, I guess that could lead to some balance issues, making you faster than the guards, thus always getting away every time. So I guess even that couldn't have actually been changed without making the game a little too easy.
Have you ever played Thief 1 or 2?
Everything about the movement in TDS is inferior to it's T1/2 counterpart. Everything.

I always thought TDS should have been called Thief: Drunken Master Thief

So you mean the game should have been done even more easier by making Garrett still faster? You can outran any AI quite easily, what more do you want? It can't really get much easier than that.
Wow... you obviously didn't read the end of my post, did you? I said that Garrett would be cooler if he was faster, but that would upset the gameplay, making it horrendously easy to outrun oponnents. My point was that for a "Master Thief" that he is kind of slow.

Yes, I've played them both. As far as I'm concerned, Thief 1 and Thief 2 had movements like any other First Person Shooter. In other words, the movements themselves were no more advanced than, say... Half-Life? Quake? In other words, they had the standard stuff... running, walking, crouching. You get the drill. They didn't do anything extra with it, so I really don't see how you can even compare. In Thief: DS, you are actually inside the head of Garrett's model, therefore adding to the swaying movements and the overall realiism of the thing itself.

It's unfortunate that Thief DS came out under the Thief name, because it is expected to be a clone of the first two games. If it had been released as a totally different name without coming off as a copy of the originals, probably most people would say, "Oh, look. We have another alternative first person sneaker."

Then as far as I'm concerned, you're about as observant as a sack of hammers. Half-Life, et al, did not have leaning and mantling. Furthermore, the "leaning" in TDS is a useless botch job that throws your entire body into view, and in TDS you can't even walk in a straight line without momentarily veering off in the last direction you were heading.

Despite the leaning, the walking/running was basically sliding across the floor, like most First Person Shooters. But yes, I admit about the leaning in T:DS should have been done better. For one, he leans a little too slow, and he leans a lot of his body into view. I've had it come into handy before, though. And I'm not sure what you're talking about with the "veering off", I have no problem running in a straight line.
Oh, and I don't take kindly to insults. You could atleast accept my opinion rather than spitting it back at my face. Very unpleasant and rude.
And you're taking me all wrong. It's like you're getting offended because I have an opinion, and that you think I seem to HATE a game that you love. I never said "Thief" was a bad game, nor that it was worse than Thief: DS. I just said that I liked almost everything about Thief: DS, okay? I like it just as much as I like the other two games. So go take your filth elsewhere.

Not entirely. There are a lot of 'little details' in the Thief 1 and 2 movement that is so good, you don't really notice or think about it. Next time you play it, take note of how well the players on screen movement (head bob) is synced to the actual movement of the footsteps. It just feels right. I may not be the most graceful person in the world, but I dare say that I don't move like Garrett did in TDS. Somewhere between Thief 2 and TDS, his motor skills became highly impaired.

Hmmm, somehow I think you're the one who has taken Zylon's opinion far too seriously. They only thing he said is that you were 'observant as a bag of hammers'. Hardly a serious slur....certainly didn't warrant such retaliation. The rest of his post was 'his own' opinion of the games. I didn't see him make any remarks that indicated he thought you hated the previous games.

If people took kindly to insults, that would pretty much defeat the purpose, don't you think?

Indeed.
Well, I'll take my opinion elsewhere. Well, not really, I'm going to keep it to myself while I play Thief: DS some more.

Yeah, I suppose I can see that. But I still have no problem with the movements in T:DS.

He also seemed to be mocking me by repeating the beginning of my sentence. It looked very hostile.
