Well, be ready then that the same level of critisism will be applied to TDM when it will be released. Are you absolutely sure it will be better than TDS - AI, motions, equipment, sound propagation etc. etc. etc.? Sure it looks goo on screenshots, but actual gameplay as a rule has little to do with quality of screenshots.
We will see. At least we can fix it over time if it doesn't work or not working as good as expected. And as for the AI animations. they are already much better then TDS, even though we don't have professional animators. You can say what you want, but the animations in TDS were among the worst I have seen in a game. Actually this was the first thing that I noticed, because as soon as you enter the first real map you can spot the wooden and unatural animations.

TDS AI animations are only partially "wooden".
F.e. they turn around as tanks. But idle animations are very good, walking/running animations are very good too. All motions they did with mo-cap are basically good, bad are only those made manually. TDM probably won't have mo-cap animations and the fact actually bothers me. What I call bad animations are DeusEx1 ones f.e.

Our current walking animations are based on motion capture. I don't think any of the TDS animations were done by hand, they were just poorly tweaked motion capture. Obviously we don't have access to the technology to create everything we need from motion capture, but our animators have access to enough stuff to get our basics based on it. The rest will just require a lot of hard work. oDDity did some wonderful animations 'without' motion capture, it just depends on the ability of the artist.

I thought the TDS walking animations were terrible. The guards look like wind-up toy soldiers.

I do think the one thing that IS still technically achievable is changing the animations to improve player movement.
I hadn't heard about this! For all the ways T3 is screwed up--no water, no rope arrows, tiny levels, blue mist, etc., etc.--player movement is the one single thing that keeps me away from T3 (and, unfortunately, the T3 mods). Discovered this when I tried to play through T3 a second time. As hard as I tried I could NOT get past the lurching. Most of the other problems might or might not have been solved by the community, regardless, I could have lived with them. But the lurching ... man I just can't deal with that. Such a small sad thing to put one off a game entirely.
I'd thought it was an unsolvable problem, but this possibility of new animations gives me hope.

And I considered it hostility because I just got here and I wasn't greeted with a very welcome "tone".
Unfortunately, the most vociferous people on the forum are anti-T3 and T3Ed. Why they bother wasting their time trolling around here I'll never know. Even so, rest assured there are a small but dedicated group of good people still working here. If you come to experiment with the editor and ask a question, you will be assisted I promise you.

nicely. We all have bad days, but if you're too belligerent we don't seem to be listening :p

I'll be here to help out, too. Well, at least if you ask anything I'm capable of answering. :p I'm not the brightest coal in the forge 'round here.
