why hasent anyone tackled the legendary fan mission of the "Gems Of Sarnoth"
it seems to me that is one pre thief 1 mission that has never been explored? i mean he must have bungled it up pretty bad to be on all those posters, and do we even have a idea of what the gems look like?they cant be the portal stones in thief 2 as they were there before garrett, just wondering
also only one time in thief gold has "Lord Randall bracelet" been used "thieves guild mission",but not sure if was ever a key item in a fan mission? is it to powerful to have in a fan mission
and why has the lucky hand of glory seem like it rarely used if at all anymore,i always felt a bit more lucky when i had it
ohh and the holy hammer after being blessed when its got some red inlays should be used more =Saint tenner approved
but yeah if any map makers has been trying to figure out a great idea for a single mission "THE GEMS OF SARNOTH" is a mission part of thief fan mission cannon lore,i bet that is how they got cutty in cragscleft if only damn hadent rotten his lungs so we could retrieve them
another reason its a good idea you can use all the thief one characters since they all still alive adding depth to there lore also
also out of curiosity what is the most rare key item in thief lore? from thief 1/g/2/3 only considering the first key item is bafford scepter in thief 1 and last key item in thief 3 was humm not sure if it was final glyph or something from museum ,maybe compendium? is there a list of all key items from thief games? i would like to see it

AFAIK, there is no mission about the gems of Sarnoth. Most likely, it is a reference to H. P. Lovecrafts story "(
http://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/ds.aspx) The Doom that came to Sarnath". I remember this being speculated about just a short while ago. Wasn't there an amassment of files to download a short while ago, from a former Looking Glass Studios member, which also included a text exploring that theory?
Oh, and concerning this "Hand of Glory"... do you know what this usually is, in fantasy/fantasy game lore, and also in reality? It's the severed and mummified (or otherwise conserved) (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hand_of_Glory) hand of a former thief or other villain. There might not be so many people really wishing to carry
that along for whatever purpose. Anyway, there are a few fan missions having such a hand at hand, although I don't remember their names right now. Few of them deal with the details of this item, however, for reasons you might get some ideas about now.:ebil:

i guess my point was 2 things one is we need a fan mission about the "gems of sarnoth" from the thief gold blooper mission poster in game=cannon
and i feel all the key items from om missions should be used more weather loot/objectives/etc
and yes baeuchlein i do know the means of most of the thief key items in real world settings, power of youtube/google is easy to research it all
the round snake thing eating it self is a real world thing,a belief, and hand of glory as you mentioned i read about
even the compendium book is a real thing
i am pretty sure most all thief key items are real in either real world or myth/etc
just wish while playing fan missions we could see them a bit more

Well, the thing you were referring to appears to be the Serpentile Torc found in the Old Quarter in Thief 1. A snake eating itself appears (an ourobouros) to be a special form of such a torc. It has been used rather prominently in one of sensut's Bathory missions. The original Serpentile Torc was again dealt with in "Stones and Glass Houses", and maybe even in the prequel, "All Torc". There are also quite a few missions, I think, in which some kind of torc or even "serpentile torc" is used. I think one of these missions was "Curse of the Ancients", where Garrett had to enter an undead-filled inn in order to get a torc.
Lately, even the old "Book of Ash" (or at least a very similar readable) from Thief 2's "Life of the Party" has appeared in some missions. I think it was not so frequently seen before.
Well, anyway. The one thing we certainy don't need anymore are FMs in which Garrett has to acquire four talismans once again. That piece of a story is more than just well worn, I believe.;) And Baffordish Scepters could have some rest as well, I guess.
Hm. How many quests, by the way, do we have which require Garrett to steal The Eye again? Maybe we could do with a bit of eye candy again.:p

And I always though the Hand of Glory was a reference to one of my (

"A Proper Northern Roast"? I'm wondering what they might be roasting... yuck!:eww:
downwinder on 12/2/2022 at 20:26
and yes baeuchien some key items have been use but in the grand scheme of fan mission its a low %
book of ash was in reference to evil dead i am pretty sure
after thief 2 came out ,some of the staff wished they headed into a more magic direction like thief 1,but time constrains
now imagine if thief 2 would have been more along the lines of thief one as in missions and story line with heavy magic"hand brotherhood"/etc shaman pagans/holy hammerites, scrap the entire mech story line and go for a more mage/magic story line, then finishing with thief 3 i still think the hag story line was great as it has magic/glyphs
and what if baffords scepter was magical and we never knew ,same with lord Randell bracelet from thieves guild/etc
seems like most missions are loot/complete objectives and rarely leave mission with anything good as in key items

So anyway, we clearly still need a "Gems of Sarnoth" mission. From somebody far more talented than I; an old-school FM author, nothing too fancy, with Garrett as the protagonist.

It's the Southern roasts you have to worry about.
EDIT: Speaking as a 'murican.
