Why Earth will be uninhabitable in 20 years tops (NSFL: depressing) - by hedonicflux~~

If there's one thing I've learned recently, it's that it isn't the impending doom that eventually kills us, it's the panic driven by the rumored potential of impending doom that does us in.
Very clever but apply it to this topic with examples or I can't take it seriously. Also, if it's supposed to be a counter-argument to my proposed "solution", it's a weak one. I'd like to see you really argue against it.

Regardless of the strengths and weaknesses of human psychology, or the certainty / uncertainty of various climate models, we are outstripping the ability of this earth to sustain our collective demands on it. That's not yelling fire in a crowded theater.
The Anthropocene Extinction is a reality. At the expense of many other non-human species and entire echosystems, we have been deferring the natural corrections of our own species for centuries. That cannot continue indefinitely. I don't think that is alarmist, it's just a fact. Certain people may exploit or distort certain details of how this is happening, to advance a particular agenda, but I don't think one can deny that humans are eating this planet alive.
Whether human produced CO2 is causing global climate change might still be debatable for some, but it should be clear that human industry and settlement is hugely destructive and increasing in scale.
Then again, maybe we are just agents of global change. Maybe we are the cyanobacteria of this epoch. Maybe we are just clearing the way for our Robot Overlords.

Nicker: yeah, we're definitely in for a warm and turgid future that kills us if we don't do something about it. The Earth's not going to just keel over before we're 50 though. (Speaking for people who aren't over 50 yet, anyhoo.)

As much as I dismiss all the alarmism, I must say as one of only 10 or so people on this planet who loves cold and can't stand heat, I really don't look forward to this non stop warming.
If humanity were to be done in, I'd much rather have an ice age, I'd have zero problems with that

Our recent push for efficiency might mitigate this somewhat, but yeah, I agree. At the very least, our current social and economic models are very quickly reaching the point of unsustainability. The inevitable big crash might not happen in our lifetimes, but it's lurking just over the horizon.
You know, I do have a habit of downplaying the panic concerning global warming. It's not a predestined end of the world, nor does it mark the moment of extinction of humanity. This doesn't mean things are going to be hunky dory peachy keen. We'll be facing a mass environmental change that will sit the status quo on its ear. If we continue to deny it until it's absolutely undeinable, we'll see hundreds of millions will be displaced due to our expanding shorelines, leading to mass migrations on a level heretofore unseen. Whole nations will collapse under the pressure. Economies will spiral into chaos. A number of wars will break out. Best case scenario, human civilization will be put on pause for at least a quarter century while we reorient ourselves to our slightly warmer world. Even then, with this best case scenario coming to pass, millions will have died, whole cultures, whole ways of life, will be wiped from the earth. And yes, we'll have seen a number of species, plant and animal, having gone extinct by the time the dust has settled.
None of us here will see the worst of it. We'll see the ramping up, and that's about it.
Our grandkids? They're gonna want to piss on our graves.

All I want to know is if dinosaurs will make a comeback. Otherwise, this thread can fuck off a cliff while covered in flames.
