No,
by a factor equal to your PSI. That's not +7 damage, that's *7 damage.
That doesn't sound right...
This does though.

I'd like OSA a lot more if the interface for it was a bit better.
And also if the skills were a bit more balanced or reliably useful.
You can hotkey your psi abilities with Shift+F1~12, the interface is fine. There are plenty of useful abilities that justifies going pure-psi.

The easiest way of doing the BOTM final chamber is with Invisibility + Soma Transfer. The stars don't even need to be destroyed.
I usually start as Navy, but in the end I'm a hybrid of all three branches. There are some OSA powers that I really like to use.

Ooh, learn something new every day.
Psi does have some great abilities but a lot of the powers are absolute duds and its a bit of a pain to have to learn which ones are keepers by trial and error.
Also it doesn't help me with the two most obnoxious parts of the game for me...cargo bays (DROID LAUGHS AT YOUR PUNY CRYO) and the sheer crapness of BotM (teeth jumping and radioactive underwater mazes with no map). And its attack powers are underwhelming to put it lightly. I know OSA is all about evasion and subversion but having an option to blast the shit out of the enemy is more my style than running past them all with photon redirection h4x mode.
I wish playing OSA was more like the game Psi-Ops. Crate surfing, arson and making heads explodey :D
It'd be nice if someone properly overhauled OSA.

Psi lacks options in the cargo bays?
Use localised pyro, you will be immune to the exploding droids while its up. Just run up to them and hit them with your wrench.
Pyrokinesis pwns anything living, for robots you can use the robot stun thing (forget what its called) and then Adrenaline overproduction + Psi extension and its one dead robot (or pretty much anything) in one hit!
Or if you go hybrid psi/standard using the no-recoil and no-gun-decay powers you can stick the AR Or pistol on auto, and hit with every shot. Stuff dies very very easily then!

I think the main reason that people don't use OSA much is that, while you can use powers offensively, its annoying! You have to keep switching powers, combining A with B and a dab of C. Of course, some people like that.
Also, while you can use AR, etc, most want an offensive power of awesomness! Rather than relying on your side arm or swinging a wrench.
At the end of the day, as you are so limited in the number of upgrades you have, you can't really "try out" a power. If you make it too far before realising its a dud, you don't want to re-load that old "pre upgrade" save game.

Well, the pyrokinetic field thing is a pretty handy trick...I never would've figured that out on my own since it doesn't particularly make sense to use a close-quarters attack skill on an exploding kamikaze robot
The maintenance droids and the turrets are a larger threat though, and they shrug off cryo. I don't believe you get the anti-robot skills until later tiers. On my OSA playthrough, I pretty much ended up playing an exact replica of my Navy game for like the first third of the game.
I'll have to try it again with the hotkeys plus my knowledge from my previous playthrough and see if it becomes any more enjoyable :)

Maintenance Droids are very very easy to kill, even the first one you encounter right before Deck 1. Bum rush their asses with the wrench and crouch, strafe left and right changing directions every 2 - 3 seconds as you hit their legs with your wrench. The majority of their projectiles will miss you, and the ones that hit you can be healed before they can pop another one off (I've perfected this so it's very rare that I get hit, it's pretty fun to do actually). Once their HP is low, simply run away and cryo them. I still do this even if I'm playing a standard weapons character because it saves ammo and is generally extremely effective.
Towards the end of the game I have so many med hypos from stealthing through decks 3 and 4 that I pop agility + adrenaline + psi sword and run around swiping all the bots with my shield up, their explosions tickle. ;)
You should co-op with me sometime Mercurius, I'll show you have fun OSA can be. :D
Nameless Voice on 23/11/2007 at 21:23
Using weapons and invisibility while playing OSA is hardly a worthly challenge.
Try again.
Mercurius on 23/11/2007 at 21:33
Doing the jitterbug with maintenance droids isn't fun D:
Never liked SS2's melee much, any play style that requires you to soak up laser beams just to close with the enemy gets a thumbs down in my book!
Egamtoow on 23/11/2007 at 21:58
It's all about juking man, strafe-run towards the Maintenance droid to the right, and immediately juke left the second he fires, it'll miss by a mile and by that time you're up in his face. :D
I can do it pretty consistently without taking damage, all it requires is a wrench and a single point of PSI. :thumb:
