I don't know about you guys, but I always choose the magic route in a game if there is one. Naturally I chose OSA my first time through the game many many years ago and loved it. I've tried to play Navy and Marine but neither appeal (even though they're very similar). But let me get straight to the point...
OSA is the reason why this game is always fresh to me; the reason why it never gets old! There are three major reasons and a vast majority of other lesser reasons why I prefer OSA over the other two...
1. Adrenaline Overproduction + Cerebro-Energetic Extension
Two words: Holy shit. For those non-psi users out there who don't know what these bad boys do, allow me to explain... Adrenaline Overproduction increases your melee damage by what's equal to your PSI, so if you have 7 PSI (6 + psi boost) that means you get +7 melee damage. Now stack that with 7 strength (6 strength + brawn boost). Okay, so you have some pretty hefty melee damage now, but it gets better! Cerebro-Energetic Extension turns your PSI-Amp into a Protoss-esque PSI blade which does around the damage as the crystal shard (without the smasher bug). But it doesn't stop there! Lets try overkill and get lethal weapon! This deadly combo is enough to kill
Shodan's head
in a single swipe! You could also go 6 agi + swift boost + Psychogenic Agility, that way you can zip around at the speed of light thrusting your mighty PSI blade into all who oppose you, brutally raping them in a single blow. But if you want to get REALLY ridiculous (there is no point in doing this besides feeling even mightier than you already are) you can get the strength buff and psi buff, use the buffs first and then use adrenaline, I'm pretty sure that'd be enough to kill
Shodan's head
twice over.
How is that not more fun than simple point-click-and-kill with the Assault Rifle!?!?! :D
Here's something else I really enjoyed... y'know how it was always a hassle keeping your powered armor charged without the use of batteries?
2. Electron Cascade
Recharges your implants and other powered items on-the-fly.
3. Invisibility
Self-explanatory.
...
What I'm trying to accomplish with this post is... if you haven't already... give the pure-psi route a chance, it is by no means hard at all, in fact I highly recommend it on impossible because of invisibility!
I hope this encouraged some of you to play again as a pure-psi user. :D
Also; this thread will double as a thread you can share your pure-psi strategies in.

No,
by a factor equal to your PSI. That's not +7 damage, that's *7 damage.

I like OSA, but once you get invisibility, you have incredible advantage over other two UNN grunt branches and it makes Impossible diff. rather easy in later phases. In fact you may ghost half of the game with it if you want. SS2 spedruns rely on extensive use of Invisibility too. Legitimate "cheating", still kinda cheesy.

I love playing OSA. My most fun run-through in recent memory was as a standard-weapons toting (with extensive anti-entropy use) OSA scientist.

I don't get why people choose to get Invisibility so early on. Yes I know, I sound like those people who choose not to use Vita Chambers in BS and artificially make the game harder for themselves etc. I always aquire Invisibility only when I'm near
the last many chamber and the walk to reach it right after the big drop.
It really helps getting around there but I don't really find use for it anywhere else in the game. Pyrokinesis kills anything, cryo for the eggs and robots (along with the wrench). The game is easy ;) Plus I rarely aquire the cool Psi Sword thingy because I always squander my cyber modules to hacking and physichal stats. I must be one helluva muscular Black Ops operative :P

I accept the criticism of my extensive use of invisibility or QBRMs only from someone who's been through the final Many chamber with a regular grunt at least two times on Impossible like me. Hmpf.

Actually, its by a factor of (1+0.13*Psi^2).

And try doing the final chamber on impossible using only energy weapons with no psi skills at all. Thats Tricky. Localised Pyro + invisibility makes it so much easier! As does imposed neural restructuring.

Can be the brain stars destroyed with just one hit from laser pistol ?

I'd like OSA a lot more if the interface for it was a bit better.
And also if the skills were a bit more balanced or reliably useful.

Been there, done that :) It was only after maybe a dozen play throughs when I discovered the joys of PSI only! Before that it was just navy and marine over and over again. Damn, maybe I should do that again soon... miss you Fusion Cannon dear!
