Practice isnt the word, more like perfected...
I have played both female and male characters on EQ and Anarchy Online, and I can say with confidence that ....
a) female characters are often recieved more warmly when begging...
b) begging is VERY lucrative

sometimes there is a penalty or benefit to playing female (ie- if femal characters are weaker, but faster)
personally i usually play as a female character, as long as theres no penalty. if the only comsequence is in appearance, then i like females better.
The reasons are hard to put my finger on.
Even though your RPG character is supposed to be "YOU", it is ALSO just a companion. It is a companion in the sense that you will have to look at them a lot, and hear their voice alot, and see them.
In contrast to what the other guy said, I do NOT do this to be perverted or gain dominance over the female sex in my mind. It is simple and platonic.
The explanation is this: if you are stuck with someone, it should be someone pleasant, right? Well to me, females are pleasant. It should also be someone you like, and what better way to make them pleasant than to customize the female character to look attractive? I actually do make my female look pretty, make sure they have a nice face and hairstyle and stuff, but this isnt sexual: it is an extension of making them pleasant. Maybe there IS a subtle form of admiration for the female form taking place, but it is not the main reason. It is not like i am having some form of virtual fantasy... its just more fun for me to choose the aspects i enjoy best.
Big, burly, grunting men are not what "I" want to see filling my screen all the time. A female is much better. It is like in real life. If you had to stare at someone for an hour, or hear someones voice for an hour... you would want it to be someone whose face or voice seems pleasant. To me, this typifies females.
THink of all the times u have to hear their dialogue, or hear the character say "ow" whenever they get shot. Or say something pleasant when they get healed.
It is much nicer to hear female voice acting IMHO and see a female character, than to hear some musclebound barbarian yell things.
A final reason is that females always kind of fit in better with the TYPE of characters i play. If i wanted to play fighter-type, i would play men. But i almost always play a sorcerer, archer, or thief, or sneaky type of person. My character has to be swift, cunning, and fast. Yes, men fit these roles too, but when i imagine a man doing this, he would have to be scrawny and kind of dorky (only in my mind of course). But that is not fun to imagine. A female could fit these roles naturally and be no less pleasant.
well thats my opinion. But i should add that most people i know actually play their proper gender.. i guess maybe i am indeed weird. A few people simply like it better playing a female.
i will probably play deus ex-2 as a female too :D:D

On the begging idea:
Generally the bonus when asking help from other PCs procured by the fact you're controlling a female character is due to the notion that on the keyboard you are, a female. Not only is it inticing for a male to help the damsel in distress for sexual reasons, but it's also honorable to be the knight etc.
I wouldn't decieve other male players like that, not that I care about them, but to pretend to be a girl isn't my style...
You bother, I kill.

I'm a modern, caring, zeros, sensitive kind o' guy just trying to get in touch w/my feminine side. Becoming Holly-Go-Lightly, a Red Gd Warrior, had nothing at all to do w/my hope of becomg multi-orgasmic. MW is a great game, but not that way. Then again, maybe I just need to improve my RP immersion & get into it on some other level. I mean, my 1st chance to be a little trashy/risque & I tell Nels Llendo to kiss off! Looks like HGL's gonna come out the other side as chaste as when she entered.
Gee this gender bender's confusing! Yeah! Why did I choose to play as a female? Ask my shrink. I sure don't know why.

Wow, I didn't expect to get so many responses to this thread... well I mean other than, "I like to be a female character because I can take her clothes off" hehe! When I play an RPG with multiple characters I tend to always split it up 50/50, how PC of me I know. :p But when I play as a single character I always pick a female because I guess I feel like she is an extension of me in a way and what I would do, for the most part anyway. I guess there are different motivations for why and how people choose to play though. As for the begging thing, I agree it's true, but you have to admit it's pretty lame to PRETEND to be a girl in that sense (for those reasons) I don't know, I don't play online too much... too many lame horny teenage boys, LOL!:sly:

I declare myself Sorcia's whore.

lol... I have never played a male character and never thought about it, maybe I'm just weird.

Hrm... Tuco, unlike many I've cheered you on for flaming, Sorcia's posts are intelligent and well thought-out. Don't go scaring her off, y'hear?

First of I believe that Sorcia can handle it... After all she also had a sarcastic approach to this thread - if we are to believe her expectations... ;)
Secondly Tuco has to respond to the challenge, right? :laff: I mean if you feel that somebody is stepping on YOUR toes - wouldn't you try and step on theirs?
Besides catfights can be entertaining :sly:
And besides I sense a small amount of irony in the last posts...
