Sorry about the incredibly late reply, but running the game in Win2000 compatability mode should fix this minimising problem. It worked for me at least.

I can't minimise the game (thief 3)and come back to the desktop at all !!!! :(
I hv to exit the game to go back to desktop

Some games just aren't alt+tab to desktop friendly. It's certainly annoying, but you just have to learn how to live with it.
