Oh what? I like mocking noobs as much as the next guy, but why all the bile? Some vague ideas that it might be warezed are enough to get the full Wrath of the Forum Gods?

This is TTLG - that's what it's all about!
(unfortunately)
But, seriously, guess it keeps the forum alive ;)

It's even more scary when you ask beforehand. Just get over with it.
Ummm... what? I'm not a moderator here. Asking would be pretty much the only way to do it.

Oh yeah, how could I have missed that golden thread.
Here's my favorite bit:

Go out and buy a copy of the game.
Anyone tried it lately?
£100 from amazon or poor quality from ebay... all second hand. Just THINK about it instead of parrotting "its the principle nurr"

I suppose you'd like to introduce some sort of 'protect the newbie pirate' policy? And maybe in the future become known as the Mother Theresa of piracy in TTLG? TTLG is known for being fiercly anti-piracy. He was warned from the beginning and, in fact, I could delete any of his posted threads asking for help, based solely on the fact that I know he's using a warez copy. So I'd say that I'm cutting him enough slack already.
What annoys me more isn't that he has a warez version of the game. It's that he keeps re-informing us how he got the game, even though I told him not to keep talking about that.
ZB: Sorry, that's admin stuff. Otherwise there might be someone with the description 'M07h3r Th3r3z4' already.

Just so it's clear; I was commenting purely on the general reaction to the OP's 'n00b' mistake, not the piracy issue.
I personally don't care one way or another about that but I obviously respect the admin/moderator staff's stance on piracy.

Why the big deal? Its from 1999 so you can't find it anymore, and my CD drive doesn't work so even if I could find it it wouldn't make a difference. And it ain't really a big deal, I'm playing the exact same game so it doesn't make a difference, The only difference I know of is that I start it by clicking this icon

Bum. Wish I'd seen that before replying earlier.
'My CD drive doesn't work' Ok,
now I've seen every excuse.

Why the big deal?
Because you were told not to, because it's against forum rules, and because that's not going to change as long as EA is as aggressive as they are about their IP.
You run a game by running its executable? How surprising, I'm sure legal users don't do that.
All that tells us is that you keep your hard disk in a very messy condition, installing games to the root of your drive, and that you're a fairly inept Windows user who still has file extensions hidden.
