Just another crime show, they're all the same.
Exactly -
The Wire is the same as
CSI is the same as
Criminal Intent. And Asians all look the same, right?
I don't think you could have come across as any more twee if you'd tried.
Miss Marple,
Poirot, imaginative? They may very well be good and well crafted, but crime shows don't get much more generic than Agatha Christie. And to be honest, if you consider
The Wire bland and sensationalist, I wonder how much of the show you've seen.

I don't think I've seen a single HBO show that was even mildly interesting.
So
Deadwood,
The Sopranos,
Six Feet Under,
Carnivale... These aren't even mildly interesting - but
Midsomer Murders is? I can understand people not liking HBO series, but calling them uninteresting makes me wonder: what do you consider interesting?

Have you seen an episode of this show? Have you watched how it weaves subplots and character motivations into an intricate tapestry of which certain parts unravel and some parts are still waiting to be knitted together over the course of five 12-13 hour seasons? The writing has a depth of character and understanding of bureaucracy, poverty, social inequality, politics, the seeming hopelessness of virtue and how the salt of the earth people are what keep this world spinning not the fatcats and suits. It's got some of the most heartfelt moments even amidst brutal bloodshed and devastating turns of fate, it has the ability to make you laugh, wince, shake your head, whistle, but above all else, entertains like no other show I've seen in a long time. Meaningful entertainment.
That's without touching your statement regarding other HBO shows, which are quite easily the fucking gold standard of 99% of television - The Sopranos, Deadwood, Six Feet Under.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha good one Andarthiel! :thumb:
Wait.
That was a joke, right? Midsomer Murders? Ok, its fairly relaxing turn your brain off easy to watch countryside poliz but come on. Sensationalist? Yeah it is for sure.
How many frikking murders can you have in one small countryside borough? Have you actually any idea how increeeedibly unrealistic it is? If any rural copshop had that many murders they'd be looking into "wtf is in the water?" Unless Midsomer Murders is setting us up and its going to be aliens or devils making that area go batshit murder hungry its far far worse sensationalism than any of the HBO shows.
And you clearly haven't seen The Wire or you wouldn't be spouting this nonsense.

I smell the musty McDonalds-y scent of bait. I'm sure the first draft compared The Wire unfavourably to Blue Heelers.
Incidentally (
http://www.abc.net.au/tv/comingsoon.htm) the ABC are running the whole thing starting next month. They must have some deal with HBO, they showed Carnivale back in the day and have United States of Tara on now.
I haven't been able to find out if they are editing it in any way.
Scots Taffer on 21/8/2009 at 08:52
And if they do... sheeeeeeeeeeiiittttt

Yep,they were all pretty meh(all run on the commercial channels I might add:erg:) except haven't seen Carnivale(my friend raves about it though , might give it a try).
I just hate American crime shows, even Blue Heelers was decent in comparison.

No offense, but were you born in the '40s and frozen for 40 years? :p

Why yes I was,hehe j/k:joke:
But seriously I have a strong dislike for certain TV genres like Reality shows, American Crime shows and some of the US Sitcoms(with the exception of Seinfeld which was great).

Well, if you want to lump
The Wire in with the
CSIs and so ons of the TV world feel free, it's ridiculously ignorant but you've said little to dissuade me that's not what you are anyway.
