Got the boxset for Christmas. Fucking amazing show. I loved it dearly and was sad when it ended, but to be honest, probably better to burn out than to fade away.

Before I saw the last season I caught a few random episodes from it in reruns, and could actually understand why it never really became popular. The show constantly relies on in-jokes delivered so lightning fast that none but the most dedicated fan would be able to follow it on a week by week basis. Arrested Development works far better on DVD, where I can watch three or four episodes at a time, and not have to worry about forgetting a line from Season 1 by the time Season 3 is almost over.

Is any station in the UK showing this at the moment?

Oh man.
I just finished watching season 3.
I heard that Seasons 2 and 3 were poor compared to 1, 4 and the new 5, but this was just so good.
I'm still amazed that people are not all over this. It is so, so good, and just gets better and better. There are moments in this show where things happen to people who are, in essence, toerags - but its so well done, and the characters so well fleshed out that I can't help but feel for them.
Minor spoiler, so don't read if you haven't seen it, but unless you have you are unlikely to understand the true significance of this anyway.
When Stringer and Avon give each other the knuckles, say the "Us" they always do and then hug on the balcony. Avon holds on for just a little longer, and when Stringer leaves the camera lingers on Avon leaning against the wall with a drink in his hand. THAT, my friends, was a scene. It was everything that had gone before, and everything that was going to happen focused on a pinhead as hot as the sun. I really felt for those guys, despite everything.
People, get on to it before you consign yourself to "the group that should have seen this" forever.

I lost track of this halfway through season 1 because of trouble with "street lingo" and the fact that my download was markovian and wouldn't copy to a CD to play on my DivX player. Yes, I downloaded the show.
I'll get back to it though, I'm sure of it. At the moment I'm nearly done rewatching Six Feet Under in its entirety and still love it, it's also making me desire Dexter's third season.

I'm currently rewatching The Sopranos, and while I still like it, the characters and stories in that series seem more static, the episodes more interchangeable, than those in Six Feet Under, Deadwood or The Wire. Which is a bit of a bummer. (However, I haven't seen season 6 yet, and with The Wire I've just seen season 1 so far.)

The Sopranos suffers in its later seasons. I always feel like s1, s2, s4 were the standouts, s3, s5, s6 were all a decline of some quality.

I did love Tony's S5 nightmare episode, though, not least for its sheer audacity.
How far are you along with Six Feet Under? I'll definitely watch it again at some point, but I don't feel ready yet. The thought of the last four episodes... no, not going there yet. (Which reminds me, I should listen to Arcade Fire's "Cold Wind" again.)

Midway season 4, which is the only season to slog through with David's carjacking, Claire's lesbian flirtations, Nate's dalliances with Brenda and the whole disintegration of any remaining likability on the part of Ruth, but season 5 is a fine form to end on. Looking forward to it actually, it's a really great culmination though not especially with Nate dying soonish. He's my favourite character next to Nathaniel. :(

I think I'm one of the few people who liked season 4 better than season 3. I simply found Lisa grating while she was around. Yes, most of the characters are assholes much of the time after season 2, but I could stomach them much more than Lisa's passive-aggressiveness. (I'm quite amazed that they got me to like Ruth again in season 5, though.)
