I was going to mention Weeds as well, in defense of Showtime, but Nancy just gets on my fucking nerves these days. At first she was smart and damaged, now she's just a space cadet. Bleh.
I thoroughly enjoy Dexter, and I won't pretend that some of it is simple revenge porn for me. With the exception of the Deborah character, the acting is usually pretty good, and the twists are truly twisty and unexpected most of the time. It still doesn't compare to The Wire, and falls into serial cliches too often, but like RBJ says, it's enjoyable schlock.
Does anyone else watch Dead Like Me? Interesting premise, but I'm having a hard time forcing myself to finish Season 2.
Also: ALERT, ALERT, ALL NETFLIX MEMBERS. ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT IS AVAILABLE NOW TO WATCH INSTANTLY SO YOU HAVE NO FUCKING EXCUSE.

I always got the impression that Reaper was the better counterpart to Dead Like Me - and make no mistake, Reaper does not escape the formulaic trappings of the CW. But if you can ignore the two-dimensional female characters, repetitive story arcs, and occasional needless musical montage, you get three lovable protagonists and a performance from Ray Wise that makes most shows worth watching.

I recently watched the first episode of a show called Supernatural and was reasonably impressed by it. Is the show worth carrying on with?

Unless it got better after season one, Supernatural pretty much blew it's load on the first episode. Too bad, looked like a better version of X-Files at first. :(

Just finished. Still processing but I already want to start over. I took it pretty slow so for a good while I always had it hanging there. It was like Deus Ex, I didn't play it for so long and I almost wanted to never play it, just so it was still there so I knew there was at least 1 great thing left. With The Wire, I still had 3 seasons, 2 seasons, 1 season left to watch. Oh well, I can still replay thief and get something out of it, I'll rewatch The Wire later too.
I dont think I'll ever quite be able to watch some shows ever again. I'm still looking forward to The Pacific (and Treme of course)
Like a lot of things though, I'd probably never have seen it had it not been for TTLG. Thanks RBJ.
Also, funny note: Someone was talking about "Jimmy's wake" not in spoilers, which I thought should have been and I only glanced at it and said FUCK. I thought Jimmy was gonna die in the last season, so I kept waiting for it. Then in the last episode I realized what the fuck it meant. At that point though there was still a good bit of time left so I still wasn't entirely sure. Hah. Glad I was wrong.

It gets better but it shifts tone. The series still is monster of the week but with a season over-arching plot that has been building from season to season. It also knows not to take itself too seriously and every so often has an homage episode that is a love letter to a particular film or genre. (The Groundhog Day reprise was particularly well done.)
It isn't stellar TV but it is fairly entertaining and has fun. It doesn't do creepy so much any more.

I splashed out on the first season and so far it's reasonable, though to be honest it's what I've heard about the plot arc that Banksie mentioned that intrigued me about the show.

DS9 is hokey as hell (sometimes) but god damn if a couple of those episodes didn't genuinely affect me

Is it normal to have separation pains? I'm sitting at work and just had to watch the season 5 intro, like it was making me severely uncomfortable not to. From there I ended up watching more clips before regaining control, but it was rather strange.

Yes - massive withdrawl. TV hurt my heart for several months after season 5 ended. I would recommend weaning yourself on either Breaking Bad or The Shield, or for something different, Arrested Development. This is a slow process and you'll need support from friends and family. Don't be afraid to reach out for help.
