Well that first episode pretty much bored me to tears. Lost interest about an hour into it.
GOOD THING FOR YOU THAT SECOND HOUR OF THE FIRST EPISODE IS MUCH EASIER TO GET THROUGH.

You say like that all opinions are legitimate. For the most part they are, but sometimes, like when they are based on some riiiidiculous supposition (American cop show = dumb, duuurrhuuuur) or are just stupid (Kathy Bates is
way hotter than Megan Fox) then there is no reason for people to not tell you you're being an idiot.
Now you're going to argue with me about subjectively finding Kathy Bates hotter aren't you?
I have no idea who Kathy Bates is

Well at least I gave it a shot and I didn't care for it, that's all. I don't understand why people are finding that hard to beleive.

Well look her up then, lazy.
I don't believe you "gave it a shot" actually. Your preconceptions were so out there I can't believe you actually gave this show a chance. Watch the 1st series, come back and tell us. 10/1 you won't understand it anyway.

I think RBJ was just highlighting how little you paid attention as it's a 55min episode and you lost interest after an hour.

55 mins? Guess that ABC did a double episode because it went for way longer than that (about 2 hours).
I'm not even going to bother responding to you, Subjective Effect(mostly due to your immature attitude towards me).

"Inspector Rex" > "The Eagle"

Well I suppose that's true in some ways, Rex has more comedy than the Eagle. But the Eagle has better (human) character development.

Goddamn... episode 4 was TENNNNNNNSE.
However, I'm getting a little bit weary of just how "ahead of the game" Marlo Stanfield is at nearly every walk... ahead of his own competition (sad to see Prop Joe go as he did), ahead of the cops, ahead of figures like Omar. And that was a close one for my boyyyyy... nearly walked into a clearly telegraphed trap. Omar is usually more careful than that. :o
This already feels like it's building a head of steam for a huge finish.

I really didn't care for the Invincible Marlo either at about this time. In fact, I was really unhappy about how little satisfaction I was getting compared to what I was expecting at about this point in the series.
However, there is something instructional at the core The Wire (many somethings, really), and there's something to be learned from this as well.

The Greek was just as invincible as Marlo, but the series didn't focus on him in the same way.
I have to say that while Marlo wasn't my favourite character by a long shot, I still prefer him to Brother Mouzone. Now that was a character that I might have bought in any other series, but he felt so stylised and 'written'. I consider him one of the weakest elements of The Wire.
On a different note: which version of the title theme did you like best? It's Tom Waits' version that's stuck in my head most, even though in strictly musical terms it's the least interesting one due to being extremely repetitive. It just works so well in the context of the depressing world of the docks.
