You know, it's one thing for all of us 'elitists' to be saying it sounds bad.
But when three of the five articles I've read are saying 'the running/parkour segments are hyper-linear and add nothing to the experience'... I mean... many of these articles are written by journalists who have little to no experience with the series.
What part of 'This is bad in any context' does EM not understand?

I do hate it when the Elders argue! And here I thought the internet was a place of love and harmony!

Hahahahaha!
It has just come to my attention that people think we* are trying to recruit others onto a Hate Bandwagon. F*** that! I know you don't get what's happening here, but until now, I haven't been able to understand some of the weird attacks hurled our way and how nothing positive we say means a damn. If you think our positive statements and real excitement are reverse hate, then no wonder you keep freaking the hell out. Good god almighty.:sweat:
Fix your broken s***!

Fighting negativity only because you don't understand it
When people don't understand something, they ask questions (for example, "Why?") and if they get an answer it will be so much easier to understand.
I would honestly like to hear some of your personal insights to why New Thief = AC? Not to antagonize, but to know what you mean, because I can't see that. The screenshots and the trailer don't remind me one bit of AC, and I have played all AC games. A thief who is agile and has learned some moves to get out of situations without using force simply MAKES SENSE, it doesn't have to mean they were rubbing their dirty little hands and saying "Hehehe hey let's do AC all over again just to annoy old Thief fans".

It wouldn't have made sense before parkour became fashionable.
I think it's perfectly fair to speculate about Ass' Creed (or much else) at the moment. The motivation doesn't have to be to annoy Thief Fans. The motivation might come from wanting Ass' Creed style sales numbers. Or because there's a number of T4 devs who have come from Ass' Creed and maybe they think their game design values and skills are where the sweet-spot is. Maybe because gaming as an industry, and everything else for that matter, isn't about carefully making intelligent and creative decisions but copying what other people are doing. Hence the business cycle and bubbles (and crashes). And the Games Industry is bubbling right now.
But it is speculation. And it's just as fair to speculate that T4 won't be Ass' Creed with 1st person bits.

Jay, of course we speculate, and so far most of what we know of the actual game is speculation. In the end, the most important thing - the atmosphere, how strong is the immersion, the credibility and logic of the game's world, how it plays, the story - can really be found out only when we play it.
I'm asking about jtr's point of view, because he seems absolutely certain it WILL be more AC than Thief, and claims that not seeing it is just our own laziness or whatever. Maybe I'm stupid, maybe I'm lazy, but I fail to see what is so horribly offensively AC in the stuff we've seen so far that makes it entirely something else than a Thief-game.

Maybe we haven't got the entire big picture. The only reason why Garrett would need to parkour is when he is travelling a long distance, maybe from his hideout to the designated area where he is targeting to steal. Other than that, it should be more stealthy to the point where Garrett's enemies may not even know he is there.
Parkour skills - jumping over barrels, climbing buildings or running much faster than the guards should NOT be in a Thief game. This would be emphasizing much more on your evasive skills rather than the stealth portion of the game. Climbing buildings would make rope arrows redundant, running much faster would make speed potions redundant. Jumping over things makes it much easier to avoid a guard's path or easier accessibility into areas. All these would take away the originality of what Thief was in the first place and replacing it with elements from other games.
I really hope that Thief will not be a run in, grab item and run out kind of game.:erg:

Why would it be? I'm not saying it definitely won't, but the interviews and previews and articles and even the trailer all seem to point to the direction of stealth, darkness, avoiding conflict, staying unseen and unheard. If that's not an essential element of a Thief game, I don't know what is.

Yea maybe I'm just painting the worst case scenario. It's just that with all these added features - focus, parkour, probably more 3rd person scenes and the toning down on the magic portion of the game is just diluting some of the original elements of a Thief game. The Thief game is successful because it was challenging and much different from other games where it discouraged a frontal approach to your objective. With focus and parkour, it simply made it much easier to go head-in and bring you out of those tough situations when you are faced with so many guards, unlike with the original Thief games where you had to pay much more for the consequences of your actions.
Keeping the main protagonist name "Garrett" and having things from the original Thief game does not make it a Thief game.

You are correct, good sir...Unfortunately, there are those who mysteriously have trouble comprehending this concept.
