Exactly. Totally different, and yet they've built AC into Thief[4] and AC's assassins into Garrett, and turned the rulers and nobility into his targets in an AC fashion, with the big new game mechanic and objective of prominent stealing. They've already done it and have used it several times as an excuse to push out what we love about the trilogy, even TDS, 'cause they think it fits their vision better. It's Thief-based, and AC-based, not just Thief Cubed forcing n00bs to think different!

Prove it. Show me evidence of this.

In AC you assassinate people all the time, that's why the game is called Assassin's Creed. In Thief you're a thief and you're supposed to steal stuff, that's why the game is called Thief.
The developers have said that Thief can be completed without killing anyone... good luck in trying to do the same in AC!
There's really not much that I can see them bringing over from AC into Thief. Takedown moves maybe?
jtr7 on 6/4/2013 at 03:07
Exactly! Two different games! Keep AC out of Thief[4]. Not even the way they built the world in AC is correct for Thief. The list of things to borrow from AC only is nil. The list of things to work in through the technical possibilities of today are huge and welcome. Thief already borrows from a healthy and rich history of games, movies, literature, etc., and what we've only seen in hints, frames of cutscenes, seen in concept art they could possibly have made back then, and things heard of only in the games' fiction, are a wealth of resources to build in 3D and interact with beyond any of the titles. What they did with 30 lines of code and 3-4 hours of debugging has not been matched since 2000, so come on, devs!

Once again, show me proof that New Thief is borrowing heavily from AC. You keep saying it does, but you have yet to actually show us why you think it's the case.

But they
are keeping AC out of Thief 4, as far as I know...

Um, nope. They are revealing more and more that they haven't every week! This is bothering us! I and others are pointing it out and asking why it's there, and the excuses are lame, and it's taking our enthusiasm down another notch with each new AC-corruption. How ironic, or coincidental, or intentional, that Thief[4] is an even larger corruption and splintering-off of the series than TDS was! Art imitates Art! It's fixed some things TDS got wrong, (kept some things TDS got wrong), but it's taffing other things up at the core!

I think jtr has me on ignore. Tomi. Tell him to show us evidence that that EM is bringing Assassin's Creed into Thief 4. Concrete proof. Clear examples.
He keeps talking about all these terrible things he sees, but 99.842% of them are based upon the tiniest things, and extrapolated to the utmost extremes. I don't even think he knows what Assassin's Creed looks like, let alone how it plays.

Okay. So, what
exactly is it that they're bringing from AC into Thief? I honestly can't see
any* similarities between those two games, so you're gonna have to give me some good concrete examples to convince me.
And who's this "us" that you keep mentioning?
* okay, I put on my thinking cap and really thought about this, and realised that Garrett's new cape looks a bit like the AC protagonist's cape... Thief 4 is ruined. :erg:

You know, I thought I knew better than to get worked up over the things completely unreasonable people say.
...yet here I am.

I'll tell you exactly why he thinks as much. It'll also probably be a tiny glimpse into jtr's thought process.
1. Thief 4 devs worked on Assassin's Creed.
Like this means anything. LGS also worked on a golf game, a flight simulator, and a mech game. None of which appear at all in Thief.
2. That said, Thief 4 devs did experiment with AC style gameplay at one point.
This is taken as the ultimate insult. A Thief game should only be designed as a Thief game. Don't look anywhere else for inspiration. You don't need to. The last decade of game design is all for naught. All those games are designed for dumb people and their dumb dumbness that is dumb.
3. Take 1 & 2 together, and the end result is obvious. The Thief 4 devs want to make a new Assassin's Creed.
I mean comeon. The evidence is RIGHT. THERE.
4. It has parkour. You know. Running around on rooftops and jumping between buildings, but with...gasp...acrobatic agility.
None of us here could ever imagine Garrett doing that. I mean, yeah. Running around on rooftops and jumping between buildings, sure. But with grace and poise? Oh hell no. If you don't see the difference between the two, then YOU ARE NOT ONE OF THE TRUE FANS!
5. I dunno. Insert something about console gamers, and the masses, and how they don't understand us.
It's all so very ridiculous.
