If you can find time to give your opinion and experiences with it, it would doubtless be invaluable.

How long off is the standalone? I should really research this a bit more. :ebil:

so about this darkmod... it is a patch for thief gold?
I keep seeing things about it but reluctant to try it. If I don't like it will I have to reinstall thief?
What exactly does it do?
jtr7 on 10/4/2013 at 02:50
It is a Doom 3 mod. Doom 3 modded heavily into a very Thief-like game that is better than Deadly Shadows. Thief[4] should've taken (more) notes from The Dark Mod. You used to need to install Doom 3 to run TDM, but since the source code was released, The Dark Mod won't need people to install Doom 3 anymore. It's being improved all the time.

FenrisUlf, check out this (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNWft5ouaow) video. Prepare to rejoice, for this team hath brought Thief back to life. :ebil: And sooner or later, you wont even need Doom3 to play it. They will have a standalone download on their own website. It was made by hardcore fans of The Dark Project, and is the closest thing to Thief available today.

Pay the $5 or so to get Doom3 and play it now. I know you won't like the game, but think of it as throwing in support for the company that made standalone TDM possible by fostering indie development, and regularly releasing the source codes to their engines for the community to use and play with.
I think ID kinda deserves some props as well.

If Square-Enix would grant permission to let the community use the Intellectual Property of the Thief Universe's fictional elements, TDM could "easily" race past anything EM will ever do with Thief.

Of course.
I suppose now would be a good time to make you abreast of something. My gaming computer doesnt work on the internet. Ive had it since 1999 and upgraded it to the max. :) It play all the classics up to Wizardry VIII flawlessly. By the time I actually get a new computer (year+ or so...) Dark Mod will be downloadable and my brother will dutifully send it over, and who cares?! *reaches into his pouch and withdraws a pinch of Nightshade and Mandrake Root* Now, now, just sit down right there. Give me a moment to mix these reagents, wilt thou?!?!
FenrisUlf on 10/4/2013 at 04:55
hmmmmm why would people combine these two games that are sooo far apart? :)
I so hated doom3. I mean i like hoorror games but that game just wasn't scary. The first like 15 minutes was good then it was just so repetitive
interesting that they thiefed it up.
so it is doom 3 engine with thief gameplay?
or is it just doom 3 with thief sounds and monsters

It just uses the engine, everything else is completely different and it's the most faithful Thief experience you'll find outside of the original games.
