Apart from Origin, of course, does anyone know what happened to the rights after the collapse of LGS? I wonder who has the source.

Assuming that LGS licensed the Ultima names and concepts for their UW games, all rights have since fallen back to Origin. Also, Richard Garriot holds some of the trademarks himself. I'm not sure if the game's names (Underworld, Stygian Abyss etc) have ever been LGS property though. It's more logical to assume that Origin registered them as well, to be able to release future instalments together with an other developer.

50 % of the rights belong to Paul Neurath and EA own the other 50 % : if you want to make UW 3, it will be at EA conditions : you'll not get a game for UW fans or any gamer but for broad diffusion...
