IMHO both sequels overstayed their welcome. I would be harsher against
The Dark Knight as it was fantastic up until the Two-Face subplot took over in what should have merited a third, standalone movie...
I can agree on the "Lets do a 2nd sequel with 2 Face as main baddy!" sentiment, but I doubt it would have worked realistically. Dent was no mastermind. A smart, driven man, yes, but not a mastermind like the Joker. It would have perhaps been more personal vendetta against X or Y people, but without the city-in-a-grip-of-fear like the Joker, dunno, I found the 3rd act with Dent quite well, though if he did bit the dust at the end of the film, I am booing that. Also, I didn't felt it shoehorned like the Avengers' subplot, this one had a reason to be. That Dent could have, or should have, starred in a 3rd Batman film, that's another story. :)

I loved both but the first movie in each case felt superior because it was tighter and focused on the characters. Of course they were origin movies with their flaws, but they were much more internally coherent.
Overall, I have to agree with this, specially the case with Ironman 1 when compared to Ironman 2, by far.

Sequels' two redeeming features, the freaking Joker masterpiece performance, and Scarlett Johansson's catsuit.
Fuck yeah!
:D
