I enjoyed watching the Nolans so far, but by fuck are they pompous (Bale does not help in the slightest). The first film falls victim to that horrendous version of fanboyi wikiism that has to explain the history of every fucking piece of equipment. Oh so that's what batman's helmet is made of. Was that worth making the film 30 minutes longer? No. You can just drop batman straight into a story and it works a LOT better. The Keaton/Burton one's got the balance between the inherent stupidity of the concept and a relatably human character about right, I would say, but by far my favorite is the ridiculous 60's version, which is hilarious, or the animated version, which got the balance about perfect.
Iron Man was some dull CGI desperately trying to pad out Downeys impression of himself on coke for several hours too long, and the fact it is now irreversably tied to some stupid crap about thor (actually thor) despite being ostensibly about a 'scientific' robo-suit just makes it more obviously retarded. Until they make a film out of Preacher or one out of Judge Dredd that doesn't sum up every possible bad thing that can happen in a hollywood adaptation of a british classic, all these 'serious' superhero blockbuster movies can fuck off.

I thought first Iron Man was good and Robert Downey Jr was great in it. Can't say that about the second borefest.

That would matter if I cared about it, and they weren't making a film about it right now.
And if you weren't a titanic pedant who can't enjoy anything.

Honestly my favourite Batman is Nicolas Cage in Kick-Ass.

The point I would like to make is that you can't take all this stupid crap anywhere near as seriously as marvel films would like you to take it. If you are going to have a film in which a robo-suit, a norse god, and a poorly explained green giant team up to fight evil, it is going to be at least mostly stupid. You should work with that, rather than ham-handedly trying to inject pathos and fucking symbolism into everything (although to be fair to it, Iron Man wasn't all that serious). That's why I enjoyed the fantastic four films a lot more than I thought I was going to. I'm pretty sure that terminator (a time travelling robot austrian) represents some kind of upper limit to how far you can push deadly serious presentation of a really silly idea.
Oh yeah, and I agree with Raph.

Oh boy, random flailing incoherent gibberish. My favorite!

I am a Batfan, I collect the comics/graphic novels since I was a wee child.
Batman's my favorite hero.
Joker's one of my top 3 favorite villians.
That doesn't mean my opinion matters more or is more "officially approved".
It just means I know and love the characters in the comics and like to see how the movies measure up.
But, I must say I enjoyed Mr. Downey's performance as Stark somewhat more.
That isn't to say Bale's was bad or so-so, no, it was pretty good too (better than Keaton's, imo, way too bland for my taste, plus, Batman doesn't kill, but that was more the script writer's fault than his acting), I liked it, moreso in the 1st movie since it was all about Batman, the 2nd one's good too (even if the voice was, imo again, goofy), but Joker definitively took the movie for a wild ride.
Any Ironman fans care to comment? (i.e. fans and collectors of the comics, which is the source material).
Though I can surely say I -loved- Dark Knight whereas I thought IM 2 was a decent, but not a as-good-as-the-original sequel, imvho.
