Self-explanatory. Title pretty much says it all. Who was better as their character? Who owned the role of hero/vigilante better?
I was just watching the Dark Knight the other day and have been thinking about it. It still stands up after multiple viewings, even though Christian Bale had little to do with it, unlike Batman Begins.

The one and only Jack Ryan will always be Alec Baldwin.

I would actually pay to see a movie where Robert Downey Jr plays an enflamed Christian Bale on the set of Terminator Shitfest.

I thought Downey owned Chaplin? Now I'm confused.

Downey Jr. as Stark. As a man with addiction problems, Robert was perfect for that role.
Bale makes an excellent Bruce Wayne, since he's just playing a womanising rich douche bag, like Patrick Bateman. His emulation of Kevin Conroy's performance is total fail though, he just sounds constipated after having smoked 20 packs of cigarettes.
For those that don't know, Conroy introduced the concept of Wayne putting on a deep voice for when he's under the cowl. In the B:TAS fiction it was actually the other way around, the grisly tone was Batman's true voice, the perky "Bruce Wayne" one was the act.
Kevin Conroy is the definitive Batman, but if I have to choose a live-action portrayal then Michael Keaton will always win. He nailed the multiple layers that the Wayne possessed.

Did not know that (about the voice thing). I always thought Bale was just trying to add some sort of convoluted artistic interpretation to the the role.
I have to admit, that for me, Keaton is the penultimate Batman.

The best Batman films were Mask of the Phantasm and Return of the Joker.
If you think Nolan's vision is grittiest, then watch RotJ. Probably the darkest the Joker has ever been, forget The Killing Joke.
MotP was probably the first film that actually explores the Batman character, it wasn't dominated by outlandish villains. Batman Begins' attempt at doing the same isn't even nearly as effective.

I really must watch that Batman TV series some time.
My favourite is still Adam West though.
