And I still have never played SS and only a little bit of SS2. Damn.. I need to get my hands on those games. Main problem is I have to order them online for lack of a good pc gaming store in Sioux Falls (if they even sell them anywhere anymore), and ordering it online's a bitch because of no credit card, so I have to get someone with a credit card to order them. Think I might buy them saturday....

You can't buy either of them new; your best bet is probably eBay where you can sometimes pick up a good deal.

Why should people know more about Deus Ex or System Shock? If stupid kiddos wan't to play NHL and Counterstrike games then let them play. It's not our loss.. Besides, would you really wan't Deus Ex to be like LOTR? "OMG HAVE YOU PLAYED DEUS EX LOLOLOLO IM J.C.DENTON LOLOL OMG OMG KEKEKEKE!!"
I think you got the point. I know only few persons in real life who know about DX or SS. The rest are either fools or haven't got the change yet.

These arguments are ridiculous. The basis of them is that it would have to be hugely popular to be legendary. Why does popular opinion matter? If you think Deus Ex is a legend, why do you need to make millions of other people like it in order to confirm to yourself that it is? I suppose you also think that awards such as Game of the Year have any relevance at all, or you think that hype has any effect at all on whether a game is good or not. If you need other people to think it's a legend in order to officially call it a legend, exactly how many do you need?
Why don't you compile your own list of which games you think are legends. Whose opinion would matter more to you - your own or someone elses?
You have so far answered with the latter.

My opinion matters most to me on things like this. I love Deus Ex, still think it's the best game I've ever played, but legendary? No, because not enough people who play games, let alone those who don't, have heard of it.
Gaming as a whole doesn't seem to respect what's gone before, which is why games that were considered great when they came out will start being accused of having poor graphics a few years later, even though the gameplay hasn't changed- but then I believe that too much emphasis is put on graphics.

So you do think that it can't be legendary just by your own opinion, you need it to be popular too?
Jonesy on 14/4/2005 at 20:02
(good) Games that aren't that popular will merely recieve a cult status/following.
DOOM, now that was a legendary game. Why? For many it was their first FPS, and it was the standard that most FPS were graded on for a long time after its debut. It also demonstrated the effectiveness of shareware as a viable distributing tactic.
And also because it was helluva lot of fun. :sly:

I personally don't need it to be anything other than what it is- a great game. I just feel that for something to be called legendary there should be a general awareness of it amongst more than just a tiny minority of people.
