What is a legend?
1 a : a story coming down from the past; especially : one popularly regarded as historical although not verifiable b : a body of such stories a place in the legend of the frontier c : a popular myth of recent origin d : a person or thing that inspires legends e : the subject of a legend <its violence was legend even in its own time -- William Broyles Jr
There are so many people out there that have never played Deus Ex. Yet to experience it's rich and deep storyline. Tied together with the incredible voice acting and levels. Hey the game may be outdated but dammit, I haven't played anything this good since then.
My prediction is that in the years to come, Deus Ex will rise once again. Just like dozens of book who when first released where nothing but forgotten. Deus Ex is much more than just a game. It is a masterpiece that I dare say only comes a handful of times in a lifetime. This Phoenix will rise again. :thumb:

No, it won't. It will only be a cult game that "old school" gaming fanatics know of. Just like what happened to the System Shock series which is the best game series on the face of the planet.

How many games get sequels, remakes, or whatever after a long period of time? The only games I can think of are Wolfenstein and Doom. Especially considering Eidos was bought out by FOX and Ion Storm was shut down, I think the possibility of it happening is next to zero.

In the deus ex boards-its th greatest game ever, likewise if your in shockgen then shock is the ultimate.
Having played both DX and Shock 2(still having probs with the first) I can say that Shock 2 scares the shit out of me,as I don't really like being scared I find it uncomfortable playing. It has a mind blowing plot and lots of replay value which sadly DX is lacking but I found DX to be an infinately more enjoyable game first time through. Being equally as atmospheric with the added depth of actually being in a city with people who actually have something to say, I found it alot more rewarding. DX has everything that, to me, shock needed...although it does fine without, I would have enjoyed it more.
I will always say DX is the better game.
Will it be a legend, I fucking hope so. Though as has been mentioned, it will be remembered as a cult classic. Where is Crusader:No Remorse these days?

Well, when I think of games being legends I think of Pong, Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Tetris and Doom. But those are all big famous games that everyone knows of. I don't think DX has been big enough to live up to those. It'll be - like Freddo says - more of a cult classic, like Elite or Civilization.

My point is, games like SS and DX are a niche in gaming. Mainstream consumers want to go online and shoot the hell out of 8-year-olds in the Netherlands. Games with plots don't get much attention from the brain-rotted victims of modern games which focus on dazzling graphics and physics instead of storyline. It's not going to become legendary a) because it's a game :p and b ) because it's not well-known enough. And, of course, should the movie ever come out, it will butcher the story in a similar manner to the notorious I, Robot.

(At some point I'll enjoy quoting this out of context. :sly: )

I'm guessing that ten to fifteen years from now Deus Ex might be seen the same way that Wasteland is today. If we're lucky, Deus Ex will help inspire a spiritual successor in the same way Wasteland helped inspire Fallout.
