That was not meant as an attack on Obama, but rather an expression of general disgust with government. The government structure does not facilitate changes. The govermment seems designed to protect the status quo. It doesn't matter what you or I want.
I will say that Obama is working within the limited power of his office to affect what changes he can. There are many things he cannot do, but I respect him for doing what he can. It may be the highest office, but the limitations are huge. I wish him well in his fight against the system.

Oh I know Pav, I feel the same way about the government. I agree with what you are saying. Obama has to fight the system. I wish him luck.

Anyone who truly expected this to be a perfect administration is fucking stupid, really. I think he really believe his own rhetoric, or maybe he didn't, but the fact of the matter he is he is in Washington and he's going to have to make this shit work. Sorry to those of you who demand unattainable perfection. You guys are at least half the problem, you will believe someone is a saint and are always surprised when you are disappointed.
If you think this shit is actually going to define his presidency you are also fucking stupid. This is a man trying to get his business done. The world isn't perfect and neither is he. He's going to go by his morals (which I believe are in the right place) when he can, and when he can't he's man enough to do what he needs to and get the job done. If that means being a realist and picking people that aren't what every single American wants, so be it.
This is only an issue if you let it be. I voted Obama and I think he's the right man for the job and I'm not going to turn on him in a few fucking weeks because of a few hiccups like this. Change like what he proposed in the election doesn't come all at once, yeah he might have acted as if it could but you would have been stupid to actually fall for it. He happened to need gullible motherfuckers like you who are going to be infatuated with any passing fad to get elected, because he needed to get elected (and we needed him to get elected), so I'm glad he lied (if he even did).
If you want any advice (and I know you dont), shut the fuck up and let him do his thing and quit worshiping him because nobody deserves it. If a plain-spoken hard-working rational man or woman could get elected we'd wouldn't be in the issues we are, but thanks to people like you who can only worship and idealize leaders (or equally stupid people who distrust everyone because they don't understand people at all), we cant have that, and I think Obama knows that. I was as happy as almost anyone to see him get elected, the difference is I knew that shit like this would pop up and that people would latch onto it, and I'm not bothered in the least. I hope people let him get past it and get down to business.
Also, seriously what the fuck do you people expect from the government? Life is a constant fight with entropy, and the government is just the same. EVERYTHING IS LIKE THAT. Name one system that is always perfect, human or otherwise. You are talking about an organization that is tasked with representing everyone in the fucking country (in theory at least), governed by thousands of individuals with millions of constituents, with as many forces as the ocean acting on them, and you are surprised at all by things like this? I can't believe it works as well as it does, its a fucking miracle (with people like those who are up in arms about this issue making up such a significant proportion of humanity) I don't think people understand at all why humans do what they do. Its like blaming a baby who's parents let it get away with everything for acting up and hypothesize that babies are bad. We take what we can when we can get it. If its possible to sleaze, we'll sleaze. You put what checks in place you can, but humans being humans is not exactly a MASSIVE SPOILER. Everything can always be better, clearly, but the job of the government is to try and work, and guess what? Thats exactly what it fucking does. You do what you can and accept that we live in the real world (undoubtedly like Obama is)
FIGHT THE SYSTEM DURHURUR. This is exactly the sensationalistic bullshit that has plagued us before, and Obama is a better man than I for willingly subjecting himself to it. And in case any of you are too stupid to know what I'm saying, no I'm not defending his choices. I don't have to because if these people do their fucking job I don't really care who they are. Its progress no matter which way you look at it.

I'll guess fifteen, starting from birth. Admittedly I could be off.

Well fuck me sideways, he's already admitted that (
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/02/03/obama.qanda/) Daschle was a mistake and taken responsibility for the bork up. When's the last time a pres. admitted that about anything?
I still love this guy.
p.s. BEAR - you're absolutely right. For the record, I didn't mean to sound like I think Obama's a sham, just that I was confused that an insider like Daschle was his first pick. Of course, I balked at Biden too, but I've been pleasantly surprised. Benefit of the doubt and all that...

I didn't expect perfection, and I didn't vote for Obama. I certainly don't think he's a saint. However, I do have just enough naivety left to hope things get better. I am cynical enough not to be surprised in the least in my disappointment, and, in fact, I expect it. But, I just can't manage to crush that little, tiny part of me that still believes that this nation could be, should be, great. That little part of me which is the reason I still bother to vote and still bother to care enough to be disappointed, even when I'm not surprised.

My very first vote was the presidential election of 1988. Reaganomics was going strong and life was good for me. I managed to maintain my delusions until Bush Sr. left office. So that's what? The first 26 yrs of my life. Then I really started paying attention to what was going on around me and in the world when I wasn't out partying. The more I paid attention, the more I realized my insignificance.

Don't ask me a question if you don't want an answer. ;)
