Sure, I play in a lit room sometimes, too, but there's no doubt in my mind that playing in darkness or near darkness enhances the experience.

Why should anyone respond to you if this the way you argue with people? Explain why his argument is a strawman. If someone is misunderstanding you, clarify the point you were making. Your one sentence insult replies are absolutely worthless to the discussion they take place in. They aren't very good insults either. If I were to rate you as a hater I'd give you a 2 out of 10.
I don't have to explain why it's a strawman, it's already been covered earlier in the thread. Answering the refutation of a strawman (the first image, with Doom E1M6 vs a few straight lines) by posting the same strawman, just slightly modified (Doom E1M6 vs a few
squiggly lines) does not make it not a strawman.
Also, those are not insults.

I like playing Thief (and Dishonored) in the dark.
But that guy is in his office and the protestations are thus utterly ridiculous.
As to current games being really linear - the last FPS I played was Dishonored I think. Is that linear? Sure, there are linear bits in many games but to say that it's the standard is another crock.

Its not a strawman, and you dont know what you are going on about, as usual. Just because one other person (incorrectly) called it a strawman, you calculated that it would be a clever one-up to jump on that bandwagon. Since you dont have any intelligent research of your own to back yourself up, you often flounder around, just like this! "Carry on..."

I called it a strawman, because it was. The strawman is a logical fallacy in a which one argues against and defeats a lampoon of the thing you wish to defeat, rather than engaging with the actual thing. Which is literally what that was.
For example:
How can one take Goldmoon seriously when he makes statements along the lines of this?

That was me strawmanning you

I've answered C as a game design decision I disagree with.
I'm not exactly sure what the critics of the game want though. Lets say that the game will be mediocre or even subpar. I think it will still have respectable sale levels because they pulled off a great trailer and probably will have a decent PR campaign. Secondly some people who have never played originals might have fun playing it even if it is action-oriented stealth simulator. Should we shame them for enjoying it?
No matter what happens Eidos will never release the IP, so there will never be DarkMod Garrett. Thief as a classic franchise will be over either way. One might say it was already gone long time ago with the release of TDS. The same way Fallout is post-apocalyptic Elder Scrolls now instead of isometric RPG.
So lets for a second assume that the game doesn't sell or gets really bad reviews. Is your hope that Eidos will then learn from this experience and design a sequel closer to the originals instead of shelving the franchise for another 10 years? I find that unlikely. How many gaming companies have actually done that in the past?
