Okay, what I'm seeing here is that stealth
is unlocked at the beginning of the game and it's just "lvl. 2 stealth" that needs unlocking. And?
You said it (the screenshot) was a joke - I was just pointing out that it wasn't. I have no idea what the actual significance of a stealth upgrade has within the game itself.

Thiaf was a console game since pretty much day one. If A is alarming to you, then you haven't been paying attention.
B shouldn't be alarming, as well. If you check Brethren's video, you'll see that stealth is a focus upgrade, and as such, something I suspect most here will never even run into. This is a complete non-issue, and I say this as a card carrying member of the Hate Brigade.
C might have been alarming for a better game, but this is Thiaf, so it just induces apathy instead.
How's this for E?

You can pretty easily play the old games on a controller with Xpadder. It's not outrageous to play a game with a controller.

Could you be more specific on what A is supposed to be?

B is a clear joke, by the way
And I guess it doesn't worry you in the slightest that actual gameplay content is indistinguishable from what you call "a clear joke"?
By the way, thanks Brethren for providing the video this is taken from! I couldn't find that thing for the life of me.
@suliman
E is pretty cool, actually (the animated gif, that is, not the prospect of Max Payne archery). Maybe focus mode will enable NuGarrett to perform slo-mo Matrix-style arrow dodges. In fact, I'd be surprised if that feature wasn't in the game.
@Azaran
This is a purely subjective poll. If you don't find anything wrong with it, then there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

exhibit C:
WHAT THE ****.
It's such a bad excuse to "You need to feel the level", which is absolute bs. Just so many things wrong I hear about this game. Is there an option to turn off the "Feel strangled by the restrictive level design" feature?

I think this one has been addressed (to a point) in this thread already.
Look at any mission in Thief 1 & 2, and compare it in raw square footage, and compare it to a level in a more fast paced, action packed game. Barring a few exceptions, most of the missions in Thief are tiny in comparison, but feel larger in practice. That's because in shooter, you're screaming across the landscape, running and gunning every step of the way.
Thief mission are traversed much more slowly, and tend to be packed with far, far more detail. Though smaller in pure size, you get much more gameplay mileage out of them.
That's what I took from that quote. Though admittedly, it is kind of a loaded quote that can be interpreted in about a thousand different ways.

I guess it depends on which shooters you're talking about

Honestly I'm pretty sure it's going to share splinter cells problem of like 1-3 set in stone ways to tackle a situation that where predetermined to get through a linear area, rather than thief's open level to explore.

We'll see. Personally, I'm expecting it to be like a more focused DX:HR or Dishonored. It won't be quite as free as T1&2, but you'll still have plenty of room to explore and try out interesting approaches.

I'm pretty sure I could do Bafford's Manor that quickly with 0 detections without much trouble.
I just played Bafford's Manor on normal difficulty with one detection and two knockouts in 5:54. The detection was the guy guarding the throne room, and I could have easily knocked him out instead.
Right before that, Expert took me almost 10 minutes, but that was with no knockouts, a few guards hearing noises that didn't warrant investigation, and me being a little foggier remembering the layout (most which stairs connect to the upper floor and where the exit to the alley is).
Missions that are too small is a big concern for me in the new game, but someone getting a fast time when rushing through the first mission and barely picking up any of the loot does not have me worried by itself.
