In a poll between Dethtoll and Goldmoon as people to show newcomers (like me) the virtues of the original games I'd prefer neither. However if I had to choose I'd rather have Goldmoon to be honest. Thankfully there are a lot of other users here who are very helpful without being unnecessarily rude with vitriol and stupidity or forcefully roleplaying. The worst part about it is the sheer amount of good threads here derailed by this stupid bickering, however perhaps that's what keeps the forum active.

I'd hardly call it a "deceptive title."
It's not like they could have called it "Thief 4: The Reboot"
It reminds me of what Resident Evil 4 did (also being the 4th game even though there where like 20 RE's before it)
It was a completely different game that stripped everything from the old series in favor of a "
similar" gamestyle which is more action packed version with just the franchise name so it'd sell better. That doesn't change the fact that it was a pretty damn good game, but the fact it calls itself "Resident Evil" stirred some spitefulness in a lot of people because a game series they where pretty hardcore about got replaced with a completely different game pretending to be part of the series. It didn't help that every RE game after 4 was god awful (at least 5,6 raccoon city where)
This isn't going to be exactly what RE4 did (at least the action part) but pretty much everything that's been said shows it's going to be a pretty damn similar effect. Maybe it will be good, but I have a feeling it will be kind of mediocre.

Bit of scripted action. So?

I'm really not sure why people are so opposed to there being some action in a Thief game.

You're about 9 months behind. Nobody cares about the PS4 share button anymore. Get over it.

Well it's not an action genre. I kind of understand the dislike of scripted action but at the same time action like this (running away) happened organically in the originals.

The keyword here is "organically". And frankly, from what I can make out, this series of scripted events and their frenetic, over-the-top Hollywood style presentation is pretty much the polar opposite of organic. It's a (barely) interactive cutscene that is forced on the player.

The only thing that I hate about that escape sequence is those fire arrows.
In a game that has guns it can feel quite cool when there are bullets whizzing by as you're desperately trying to head for a safe place, but it just doesn't work with fire arrows... that seem to come out of nowhere... come on! :p
