I was just wondering, perhaps someone more experienced than I can answer this question.. Which house should one join? And what are these strongholds that you're talking about frequently? I've only had the game for a couple of days..:p

I've only tried house Hlaalu, but this is the impression of the houses that I've gotten:
Hlaalu is a very influental house - the former grandmaster of Hlaalu is now the Duke of Ebonhart, and thereby the emperors representative on Vvardenfell. Thus the house is more friendly to foreigners and imperial initiatives.(Is recommended for any class - perhaps especially thieves/agents/diplomats)
House Redoran is the warrior house and located in Ald-Ruhn. Not as outsider-friendly as Hlaalu. But holds sway of the northwestern part of Vvardenfell.
House Telvanni is located in and around Sadrith Mora. The nobles of this house is ancient powerful mages - and their towers are spread out over the entire Azura's Coast(the east coast of Vvardenfell). A good choice for a mage I'd reckon - however they are not extremely friendly towards outlanders(n'wahs) :)
Take your pick.

Too bad it's not as deep as that.
The houses don't matter... their consequence is of little importance. Even as a leader of their house (Hlaalu) they treated me the same as if I wasn't when I had to be their Hortator...
hmm... anyone from Redoran/Telvanni know of any quests where they send you to fetch artifacts?

That's interesting because as Archmaster of House Redoran when I went to be made Redoran Hortator the councilor I talked just said that as Archmaster I was automatically Hortator as well.
