Personally i use Arkthngard (sp?) as my stronghold..... well the first level anyway, the undead still roam below. As an alternative the Council Club in Balmora is a good summer home. Though for the past 5 days in game time i have been wandering the continent running from Daedric worshipper sites, God damn there are a lot of daedric sites out there! especially in the south eastern corner of Vvardenfell.

Hehe. The Telvanni Monster Lab in Vivec. Suits my mood. :)
Lots of floor space, alchemical supplies, a forge, nice altar, etc. Only down side is that I have to go down to the sewer to catch a few zzzz. ;)

Prime real estate! As an assassin it was only naturally to, ahem, dispose of the house's owner to acquire the key. Clean up the body, clean out the house, hey, wait, it's mine! Mwa haha!
Bedroom is my HQ, used a mark scroll and a recall amulet to bind/gate (EQ lingo). Closet holds my too-rich-for-vendor loot, small chest on the dresser holds my rings, amulets, belts, whatnot, dresser holds bigger magic items and cool things, small chest on second floor holds my keys. I decorated that shelf with some ash statues and candles and skulls, it is my shrine to whatever assassin god is out there. Few things like the Dagger of Judgement are there too. Downstairs, my library nearly surpasses the shelves! I cleaned out Jobasha's Rare Books and moved it to my house. Poor Jobasha, he didn't want to move so I had to solve that problem. I stack rare armors on the floor by type (ebony, glass, orcish) and lay out my illegal dwemer artifacts on the tables. Baskets and sacks on the ground floor hold my alchemy ingredients. Chest in bedroom holds rare scrolls. Baskets upstairs hold my cocaine. My pipe is right there on the shelf too along with my other alchemical apparati. Currently in the process of finding enough torches to line the stairs to my room. I also made a 100 point lock spell for my doors, and use recall/Almsivi Intervention to get in and out. It's my safehouse too. I can recall there with abounty, grab an invis ption (I am WELL stocked for this situation), Almsivi out, invis, and jaunt over to the local guild chapter for the bounty. And heck, a Morag Tong branch next door. Rich as hell alchemist and clothier nearby, Pawnbroker and Trader down from the hill, outfitter and armorer there too. Ideal spot.
Thought about taking up residence under the arena (storerooms, not Morag Tong) but the rats keep respawning. My only gripe about Balmora is that later in the quest, nothing happens there. Vivec would be ideal, or near Telvanni territory. As it is I only have 1 more Icarian flight left to use, so getting around the Ashlands is tough too. Too bad Tarhiel had to plummet earthward without my amulet of slowfalling. Nerano Manor is ideal for an assassin though.

I have four houses... I started hoarding things right away in the game, I eventually needed somewhere to place them all. First I started with the Mage guild in Balmora (Balmora is the ideal town it seems) then I decided to move residence to the Outfitter in Balmora, it was my first house. I used the entire place as an Alchemy lab with a couple swords lying off on one side of the counter. Then an ugly loot bag moved in on my shelf and I decided I'd move out, so I went essentially next door. I'm not to sure who the other person is, but their shop is the farthest away from the mage guild on the side of the river that the mage guild is on... if you face north it would be the Northwest corner of Balmora :) or wait... is it southeast? Anyway I moved in a good portion of my Dwemer artifacts to there... then I got my Telvanni Tower, none of the four villagers I have seem to offer services, and no one is inside the tower except me. (There was a Dwemer Centurion Sphere but I used a spell to move him outside onto the walkway) So anyway, I turned one of the rooms into a study for my Dwemer artifacts... but it is to small, and my Centurion sphere wont fit up the walkway, plus it cant fly :( My stronghold is apparently as large as possible, but I'm certain it gets bigger... right? And how many Centurions guard the stronghold? I've counted three Spheres and a Steam Centurion I expected a tad more then that with a tad more variety, I mean I had to go into a freeking Vampire nest to get the book. Can't I have something worth it? The dineing room is nice but useless... I'm stuffing it with more Dwemer stuff. And my Bedroom (both of them) are jam packed with Daedric, Dwemer, and Magical things. I dont have enough room in my stronghold... I need something four stories tall, and full of shelves... so that I can pack things in more efficiently, I mean I'm starting to throw things on the ground cause I'm running out of room. Any tips on this stuff would be wonderfull! I'd be using my dungeon too, but there arn't any shelves or desks. And I've found a dead body in it... not much on them, not even sure what the hell they were looking for in the dungeon, or what killed them.
My theory is that Someone was calmly walking around the region near my Tower when they happened across one of my Centurions, the Centurion attacked on sight killed them then brought the body to my dungeon. How the Centurion got through those narrow spaces though, I have no clue.
Oh and can you get more guards? I heard from someone in the game about hiring guards... but as far as I can tell I only get my Dwemer Centurions, and I can only have four people living around me. I dont actually like my stronghold to much. And is it possible to make it bigger after the Dwemer Centurions stage?

So far I don't have much stuff... so the Fighter's Guild in Balmora suits me just fine. :thumb:
Tho, after reading some posts, I'm gonna empty out the two chests I 'unlocked' to store my stuff in. Any chance they'll 'respawn', I think I've heard it called... :erm:
I just joined the Redoran House, so I guess at some point I'll get a stronghold? I'm a Level 5, and about 1/2 to Level 6. My first duty for Redoran has something to do with Mudcrabs, but I can't find the darn place. And I hate those !@#$ dust storms!:weird:

Evil sandstorms. Evil blightstorms. ;)
Back in my hard days when I was kicking around in Chitin armor and peasant's clothing, I wandered into the clothier in Balmora (second "play" by the way... long story ;)). Millie and I have never quite gotten along really well, so I decided to liquidate her and her stock. I made a lot of money off of her stock, got a nice set of clothes, and some sweet digs. Some three hundred days later (having finished the thieve's guild, main plot, and just now finishing up House Hlaalu), I'm still living there. Something about that beautiful garden she had was so nice to come home to after long journeys through the ashlands. And of course I have candles and lights everywhere. Now if only I had a nice big bathtub the image of little female bosmer me coming home would be complete. :D

well first i moved into the that orc's house in balmoral... since he didn't need it anymore...
then after i had to reduce the group inside the balmoral council club to a bunch
i decided to move in there... except there were 3 ppl standing on top of the building...
with my meager speechcraft skills (25 at the time) it took ages to taunt them into
attacking me.... i then moved in there.... not enough shelves though... made a couple of
grand in profit... also it close to stilt rider, mage guild, and a trader with 800 gold who i
get along with nicely and makes it worth it picking up small useless items...
weapons i find i sell to the guy at the fighters guild... we get on famously aswell
and he has 2500 gold.. enough for the minor weapons and armour (yes the best i come
across so far has been a full suit of orcish armour and that 2hander chrysamere)...
but i got the key to that naror (sp?) manor now... so i decided to stop mid move...
since that place sounds great from you guys description..
wun (time, love, burrito.... whatever... )

Maybe I'm a little obsessive compulsive, but here's one of the weird rituals I perform whenever leaving and returning to "work" in Vvardenfell;
It happens to be that the woman in Balmora that runs the fine clothing shoppe and I are "involved". Trouble is, she knows nothing of my double life as a level 42 Rogue Adventurer dark elf. All my "stuff" (sheilds, swords, Daedric weaponry, etc) is stashed neatly away in crates in the closet downstairs. When I awake in the morning, I casually walk downstairs, kiss her goodbye, and enter the closet. Then I change from peasant clothing to fine wear along with my enchanted light armour, grab my Thunder Blade and some arrows and soul gems, a few armorer's prongs, some potions and my grandmaster's alchemy set, and then...
I teleport to the Balmora Temple, where I decide if I want to travel on foot, by silt strider, or by the mages at the Mages Guild. When I'm done, I simply cast recall, reappear in my girlfriend's closet in Balmora, stash all my stuff away in the crates or on the floor, change back into peasant clothing, and come out. Oh yeah, I'm also trying to find an open/lock spell to further protect my goods from curious eyes. Any ideas on whereabouts I can secure that?

I never really thought of making a home the first time i played the game, but the Balmora Mages Guild became convenient for dropping all the equipment i dont want to sell. The closet is ideal for potion ingredients and extra scrolls and clothes, and the benches and beds for the arms and armor. I even placed a mark spell here since when i need to travel allover the guide can take me to the places that matter to me and acess to Caldera mages guild and so the propylon way of travel too. Silt strider too in Balmora for access to the eastern pasrt of the island, jump to vivec or sadrith mora for the ships.
So in a way home is how fast you travel and how fast you want to get to your old stuff.
