After a, ahem, unsuccessful attempt to relieve Lord Nerano of his house key, I was granted the ownership of Nerano Manor. Ground floor is my armoury and alchemy lab. The weapons sit on the tables while the armour are scattered around on the floor. The shelves house my ingredients and spare alchemical apparatus. My potion stock sit on the table along the wall. Second floor is where I store my soul gems and piles and piles of books. The bedroom houses my wardrobe, and momentos from my various adventures.
BTW, is it just me or do a house really bring out the pack rat in a person. Ever since I acquired the house I've developed the habit of hoarding nearly every items I come across. I have like 5 sets of Orcish armour, 2 glass shields, a almost comlete set of glass armour, a pile of various pieces of Indoril, iron, steel, chitin and leather armour, dozens of weapons, including what must be 20+ pieces of glass, ebony and daedric long/short swords. I also have like 50 books and a king's wardrobe. My house is running out of space real soon.

I live in the Balmora Mage Guild's little alcove with the bunks. The large closet holds my alchemy ingredients, completed potions, and items to be enchanted. I set my alchemy apparati on the table along with the skooma pipe I found on the dead body just north of Balmora. One corner is where I drop my cool weapons I found. I have a nice collection of Dwemer artifacts on one of the bunks. I dump various other crap on the other bunks. However, I leave one bunk free so I can sleep.:) It is small, but cozy. The location can't be beat. I'm a mage type so easy access to spellmaking and potions and such is really nice. The mage teleporter 10 steps away is a life saver. The fighter's guild is next door so I can get my armor and weapon repaired. Bookseller and three traders are close by. (Bribed everyone I do business with so I get great deals.) The Silt strider is down the road. Balmora also has that nice steep hill right outside its south entrance so I can practice my acrobatics.:)
Who ever said that having a place to live brought out the pack rat was right. You should have seen my weak and frail mage trying to lug those damn heavy Dwemer artifacts back from the ruins.:)

I live in Ald'Rhuns Fighters guild. I kinda slaughtered everyone in there ad now i have the whole place to myself. Faily big to hold all my stuff, and i have all the railings covered with skullz. Looks fairly mean. This is by far one of the best places i've lived and I don't regret killing them at all!

I took over the Lucky Lockup in Balmora (it's the closest thing to the Silt Strider). I dont really have a system of shelves, i walk in, find an empty spot on the floor, and drop my stuff there, no need for organization!:sly:

How do you legally get hold of a property?
Without murder I mean.
I'd like to rent somewhere but I'd happily move in somewhere that had been vacated such as a tower or monastery that was empty of that I had to empty.
Also - I could create an empty building with freindly NPCs in the editor couldn't I? Sounds good. I almost wish it were a MMORPG.

I'm looking for a nice new place in Balmora and after killing those commona tong (sp?) for the champion guy at fort Moonmoth i found a key for a manor in Balmora on one of the corpses.
I think the place is called Nerano Manor like kroakie suggested (i'll have to check) and it looks nice enough (and a lot bigger than the spy masters house i'm currently sharing).
The only problem is a servant type guy on the ground floor who will (if i move in) be killed - i'm fed up with house sharing ;) .
Is it ok to kill this guy? He isn't needed for any quests is he?
Thanks. :)
[EDIT]
Also if you take over someone's now empty house do you still get reported for sleeping in their bed?

Hrm...
1) The guy on the ground floor is the master of the house; they guy w/ the key to the place in the Council Club is this guy's servant.
2) The only quest I know of that uses the guy is the Thieves' Guild quest that asks for a copy of the key to his house.
(Oh, and no idea re: 'freeing' the bed... I haven't gotten around to trying yet, myself)

Oh...
I don't intend to join the thieves' guild any time soon but I don't like to burn to many bridges so I'll leave the bloke down stairs to his ramblings.
Thanks for the info Forsythe :)

No sweat ;) Btw, kill him if you like, they just say "I wish you hadn't killed him" and you miss out on 500 coins ;)
Edit: Ohhh.... wait, just noticed something... if you're in Redoran you'd best leave him alone... they get twitchy and you lose rep w/ 'em if he dies before you complete a certain quest.

Also if you take over someone's now empty house do you still get reported for sleeping in their bed? AFAIR Nerano Manor does not have any servants in it. There is a Lord Nerano though (whom I killed). The one with a servant is the Hlaalo (sp?) Manor (The one with a dead body, not House Hlaalu.). There is a Thieves' Guild quest linked to Nerano, where if you kill him to accomplish your mission, you won't get rewarded for it.
And no you won't get reported for sleepng in their bed. In fact, you won't get reported for sleeping in anybody's bed as long as they can't see you.
