Damn !!
Iv'e been living on the balcony outside the fighters guild in Balmora. I didn't know if any dropped gear would stay there so I tested with a few cheap potions.
From what you say I can take over a recently "vacated" house and drop all my goodies.
What should I be carefull with. What's this regenerating chest I hear about ?
Thanks

Regenerating Chests are Guild chests or other special chests (like some shopkeepers) which restock themselves. They're not that common, and shouldn't be a problem in most vacant spots. Cleared out bandit dungeons I think would actually make the best "houses" short of making your own in the editor (it's not actually that hard to do), but it's all up to you.
Oh yeah, and to take screenshots you need to enable it in the INI file, then just hit printscreen. The INI file is easy to read, so I won't baby you

St. Olms South Apt#2
It's kinda small but I picked it because it wasnt named so-and-so's house it just had a number and i couldn't afford the rent on anything bigger. (supporting expensive skooma habit)

I broke into one of the locked houses in Ald-Ruhn and settled down. I love that town, it suits my travelling routes and is small enough to easily move around.

This is where I live :)

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/rpgfan/images/ss0.jpg It's called the Assernerairan Shrine and is in the sewers under Vivec, St Olms Waterworks. As you can see it has a nifty statue and an anteroom, which has a bed, cupboard and two chests. I had to kill off some Dremora and a Daedra Lord to vacate the property, damned sitting tenants ;)

I live in Balmora - in that quaint little 3 story terrace cottage, that belonged to the orc you have to kill for the fighter's guild..
Ground floor is my amoury.. i have a complete set of glass armour.. and nearly a second complete set.. daedric gauntlets.. daedric mace and a couple of long swords, glass weaponry...ebony stuff no one can afford to buy.. looks all lovely and glittery! Landing is my alchemy studio.. (i am a knight with a severe interest in alchemy!) and store my completed potions upstairs..
Carry my fav item with me - my security blanket.. my daedric dai katana.. 120,000.. max 60 dam per hit.. rar!

I've always had a soft spot for balmora so when I learned that whats-his-face was murdered and his manor was available I jumped at the oppertunity to move in. All I had to do was get rid of some crazy squater who kept trying to tell me some sob story about how the previous tenant was murdered, despite all the times I told her I did NOT care. It took me a while to clean out all of whats-his-faces stuff but once I did there is more storage than I'll ever need not to mention 2 bedrooms. That was day 20, now at day 189 it's nicely furnished with an study stocked with the around 80 books that I've collected and my spoon collection( I use them as my calling card whenever I Kill/Rob any person/place)
I use the large dining area to practice my spells and keep cool crap I find, the small bedroom is where I stash all my food and alch. stuff and spare arrows, and when I get bored I retire to the balcony to snipe anyone unlucky enuf to get into range.
I love this game.....

I use a corner of the Balmora Mage Guild. I made a plug-in that added extra shelves, a desk, a table and some extra capacity sacks.
I have a shelf filled with potions I never use, a shelf loaded with loot too expensive to sell, a nice collection of soul gems -- one for each type of creature (I think, might have missed a few), more alchemical ingredients than can fit in a normal container (hence the extra large sacks).
