I have played Deus Ex several times but there is one area I was never able to conquer. When you have to go to the lab underwater. There is supposed to be a key to the ammo locker and a GEP gun outside the hatch. I swam everywhere around that area and even drownwd poor JC in the process. Where exactly would that GEP gun be or am I way off base? :p

Makes opening those pesky locked boxes soooo much easier.
I don't remember a GEP gun in the underwater Lab, but I could be wrong--it has been known to happen before. :)
I just started playing through again--for the 15th or so time. If I come across anything when I get to that part of the game, I'll let you know. Just to warn you though, at the rate I'm playing through this time, it might be around Christmas.

I picked up a GEP gun after Lebedev and kept it through a few missions. Then in the middle I drop it to pick up other items. Then towards the end I pick up another GEP to finish.
I heard that in the flooded room with greasels that if you head to the SW hatch you can get outside. Once out you are to swim towards the flashing light (south?). There is supposedly a hidden area but I have never found it.
I love this game and have played different ways each time. I haven't tried the ninja way yet.
Thanks for answering.

that area does exist.
If you open the sub bay doors after you arrive
at the underwater base and swim out of there;
to the left is a hatch to the room you're talking about
and to the right is a hatch to a room with rockets and a rebreather.
Furthur to the right you can see a 'flashing triangular area';
this is the entrance to a completely flooded room with a
clip mod, 'storage access' key and a biocell.
And there IS a GEP gun on the floor behind a table.
.
hadn't been that far before, thanks for mentioning it

I'm off to try to find it again. Thanks!

the place where i got the GEP gun was at the docks right at the begining of the game when u first meet paul denton. he ask you what weopon u want to start with (mini crossbow, GEP gun and there was another weopon witch i cant remember from the top of my head). if you chose the GEP gun. you would have it available at the place you are stuck on. it is hard to find a GEP gun in the game cus not many of your enimies have one. if i was u i would start the game again and get the GEP gun off paul and then u wil be able to finish the game. or if u have some LAMS you could use them.
good luck

He doesn't need to go that far back!
At least one of the guards on the balcony of the main
building has one. Where you first arrive and start the
underwater lab mission.
The KEY is more important as it will save you a bunch of lockpicks.
.
I think this is more just trying to find everything that can be found
rather than actual need. I know I hadn't looked for anything
beyond the 2 hatches, so it was a neat score.

I have played many times and now I'm going back to try to find things I may have missed. Thank you for the input though JCDenton2000.
I have played where I pick up a different weapon at the dock each time I restart. Your choices are crossbow, sniper, or GEP. You also get a different answer from Paul depending on what you pick. The mightier the weapon, the more defensive his statement to you will be. That is the great part of this game, what you choose depends on how people react to you. The first time through I didn't realize you could click repeatedly on an AI and they will continue to give you more answers. I also didn't explore the map as thoroughly. I think I have been all over now.
Another thing I never figured out is the cameras at UNATCO. The ones that you find deeper into the offices. There are some that I never did find a way to turn off, but they never raised an alarm later in Breakout. There were the 2 at the front you could turn off though.
P.S. I'm actually a she

hadn't been that far before, thanks for mentioning it slofish - :thumb: - Thanks for the info. I wondered where that stinkin' key was! I thought that I had checked out that area before. I probably drowned JC a few times and gave up. I'll remember to keep a rebreather in my inventory for that area this time through.

Its a long swim, but with the Swim, Aug or rebreather, its very possible.
The first three occurances of the GEP, if I remember correctly, are;
1. Paul on docks before starting the Liberty Island mission (but why would you want it?)
2. The Airfield where you are looking for Lebedev's 747. One of the towers has a GEP in it. Again, why would you want it? There is a surplus of lockpicks, multitools, and datacubes in this game for getting everywhere you want to go (sorry about that last line, sounds like a Delta commercial).
3. Sam Carter opens the UNATCO HQ armory. Look behind the door.
I only used the GEP for the fun factor. My main weapons were always the; baton, prod, stealth pistol, mini-crossbow, and once the silencer mod came along, the sniper rifle. Seems like I always had 20 lockpicks and multitools......
